Robotic engineering inspired by biology—biomimetics—has many potential applications: robot snakes can be used for rescue operations in disasters, snake-like endoscopes can be used in medical ...diagnosis, and artificial muscles can replace damaged muscles to recover the motor functions of human limbs. Conversely, the application of robotics technology to our understanding of biological systems and behaviors—biorobotic modeling and analysis—provides unique research opportunities: robotic manipulation technology with optical tweezers can be used to study the cell mechanics of human red blood cells, a surface electromyography sensing system can help us identify the relation between muscle forces and hand movements, and mathematical models of brain circuitry may help us understand how the cerebellum achieves movement control. Biologically Inspired Robotics contains cutting-edge material—considerably expanded and with additional analysis—from the 2009 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO). These 16 chapters cover both biomimetics and biorobotic modeling/analysis, taking readers through an exploration of biologically inspired robot design and control, micro/nano bio-robotic systems, biological measurement and actuation, and applications of robotics technology to biological problems. Az előadás sok-sok példa segítségével (pl. ultrahang-szívdiagnosztika, navigáció) ismerteti a rendkívül izgalmas új kutatási és innovációs törekvéseket, az "érzékelő számítógépek" születését és fejlődését. A sokféle érzékszervet utánzó érzékelő számítógépek a látás, a hallás, a tapintás és más információk alapján értelmezik és felismerik a szituációt, és ennek megfelelően avatkoznak be. A biológia területén elsősorban az idegrendszer motiválta információtechnikai eszközökkel és gépekkel ismerkedhetünk meg, majd szó esik az élő szervezetekbe beépített protézisekről is. Az aggyal közvetlen kapcsolatba kerülő chipek a mesterséges eszközök és az élő szervezetek közötti szimbiózis irányába mutatnak. Az info-bionika területe a technológiai fejlődés, a társadalmi várakozások és a bioetikai megfontolások érzékeny kölcsönhatását is szemléletesen példázza.- This lecture offers an insight into the science of info-bionics. Noted Hungarian electrical engineer Tamás Roska talks about how the convergence of informational technologies, biotechnologies and nerve science have created a new area of research, which has contributed in the creation of a number of new products and services. The lecture lists a number of examples (such as ultrasound heart diagnostics, navigation) to describe the exciting horizon of new research and innovative projects, like the creation and evolution of “sensitive computers”. A bioinspired, reusable, paper‐based gold‐nanoparticle film is fabricated by depositing an as‐prepared gold‐nanoparticle thin film on airlaid paper. This paper‐based system with enhanced surface ...roughness and low thermal conductivity exhibits increased efficiency of evaporation, scale‐up potential, and proven reusability. It is also demonstrated to be potentially useful in seawater desalination.
