The region of Najd in Central Arabia has always been regarded as inaccessible, ringed by a belt of sand deserts, the Nafūd, Dahana and the Rub' al-Khāli and often with its population at odds with the ...rulers of the outer settled lands. It is however the centre of a purely Arabian culture based on a partnership between bedouin camel husbandry and settled palm cultivation. Possibly as a result of overpopulation the bedouin have periodically spread over into the lands of the Fertile Crescent. Because of their isolated position the Najdi dialect is of a very interesting and archaic type showing very little non-Arabic influence, which has led to the reputation of the Arabian bedouin as preservers of the original Classical form and considerable prestige being attached to the Najdi type. Consequently the region is a powerhouse of dialect influence so that Najdi based dialects are spoken all along the Gulf Coast and throughout most of the Syrian Desert.Interest in these dialects has led to a number of recent studies of their oral literature and of the morphology and phonology. Ingham's work concentrates on the grammatical system, syntax and usage and is based on a number of trips to the region over the last fifteen years. The data base includes bedouin oral narrative, ordinary conversation and radio plays.
Stjepan Pulišelić (1910. – 1998.) prije svega je poznat kao pjesnik. Veći dio njegove poezije čine čakavske pjesme napisane mjesnim govorom Škripa na otoku Braču, odakle autor potječe. U radu se ...skreće pozornost na značenje Štefe Pulišelića i pisane mu tvorbe te se proučava jezik njegove pjesničke zbirke Glos sa škrop. S obzirom na činjenicu da mjesni govor Škripa do sada nije samostalno opisan, a osim literarne vrijednosti Pulišelićevih stihova pisana je građa u tome svjetlu od velike važnosti.
U radu su obrađeni dijalektizmi romanskog porijekla u zbirci pjesama Tomislava Meštrića "Na raskrižju vitrov", napisanoj na jednom od čakavskih mjesnih govora, kukljičkom idiomu. Posebna pozornost ...posvećena je stilističkoj dimenziji.
Vocal works that use dialect in African-American culture were first heard in the minstrel shows that toured the United States and Europe before the Civil War. The dialect was in use by the 1870s in ...minstrel shows, although the minstrel songs tended to present derogatory caricatures of African-American and slave culture known from depictions of southern plantations. Touring college vocal ensembles such as the Fisk Singers avoided the use of dialect when they performed spirituals. "Coon" songs, ragtime melodies using the most controversial dialect lyrics, became popular in the 1890s, and moved to the concert stage in 1910, offending many African Americans as a negative depiction of blacks. As the popularity of "coon" songs faded, Writers such as James Weldon Johnson defended the use of black dialects in spirituals and in art music by such composers as his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson, claiming it to represent the history of the race.

This chapter examines Negro literature in Illinois, beginning with the literary societies, orators, and slave narratives of the nineteenth century. The Illinois Negroes' interest in literature had ...been recorded almost a decade before the Civil War by the organization of the Chicago Literary Society. Prior to 1861, there had been thirty-five works of Afro-American authorship published and sold in the United States; at the time of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893 in Chicago more than 100 had been issued. This chapter considers the literary turn marked by the dialect poetry of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, James Edwin Campbell, and James David Corrothers, along with the free verse of Fenton Johnson. It also discusses the works of other Negro writers such as Frank Marshall Davis, Langston Hughes, and Arna Bontemp, as well as those of a number of white scholars, poets, and novelists from Illinois who had written sympathetically about African Americans.
Literature in dialect is often viewed as a 'minor' since it is written in a marginal language. Since the emergence of a growing number of neodialect poetry in Italy, the parity of vernacular poetry ...and poetry written in standard Italian has been put into question. This dilemma has particularly affected translators since translation from dialect must be able to reflect the dialect's uniqueness and diversity. However, it is nearly impossible to render in translation even part of the connotative richness of the original words. The success of translation thus lies in the linguistic and literary skills of the translator.

In this thesis we have not entered the names of all the authors who wrote in the Venetian language in the course of the XX century, but only the names of those who distinguished themselves.
This ...thesis does not deal exclusively with poetry, but it includes also prose, theatre and journalism. In fact, analyzing so many and such varied works allowed us to formulate working hypotheses on the origins, evolution and various motivations of their respective authors. It also supplied us with some clues as to why they chose to write in a regional language and, sometimes, in one of its dialects.
Our work has taken into account the literary production in other regional languages of Italy, as well as the theoretical writings on this subject.
Owing to the synoptic presence of all of these elements, this thesis fills an existing gap and thus offers a positive contribution to contemporary scholarship on regional languages and literatures.
Writers and poets who wrote in the "language of Venice" are far more numerous than is commonly reported in the history of Italian literature. It is the purpose of this dissertation to present and ...highlight their works.
Since here we mainly deal with writers and poets of the second half of the twentieth century, for which there is no roll call, we deemed it appropriate to research and introduce them, supplying for each of them detailed biobibliographical data.
In the course of our work we tried to sketch a subdivision of the matter which keeps in mind what has been previously done, but which is also new if one takes into account the whole scope and breadth of this literature.
