This study contributes to the theoretical perspectives on digital nomad identity. The aim is to go beyond the construction of the nomadic identity framed as identi-ty work in liquid modernity. In ...doing that, the paper offers an empirical investiga-tion of how knowledge workers construct and perform nomadic subjectivities through liminal work identities in under-institutionalized contexts and symbolic consumption. Drawing on the life history of digital nomads living in Chiang Mai and Bangkok (Thailand), this work concludes that digital nomads know or make the experience that the nomadic lifestyle is not a permanent way of life but a spe-cific stage of their life paths. Digital nomads frame their projects of self-realization through the digital nomad lifestyle as a liminal transition. The digital nomad identi-ty emerges as a temporary and opportunistic assemblage of neoliberal do-it-yourself biographies toward the emergence of a post-nomadic identity. However, the paradoxes and constraints embedded in the digital nomad lifestyle can freeze digital nomads in an objective and subjective permanent liminal condition.
How travelling the world allows new ways to educate
children and perform family life on the move
A growing number of families are selling their houses, quitting
their jobs, and taking their children ...out of traditional school
settings to educate them while traveling the globe. In The
World is Our Classroom , Jennie Germann Molz explores the hopes
and anxieties that drive these parents and children to leave their
comfortable lives behind out of a desire to live the "good life" on
the move.
Drawing on interviews with parents and stories from the blogs they
publish during their journeys, as well as her own experience
traveling the world with her ten-year-old son, Germann Molz takes
us inside a fascinating life spent on trains, boats, and planes.
She shows why many parents-disillusioned with standard public
schooling-believe the world is a child's best classroom. Rebelling
against convention, these parents combine technology and travel to
pursue a different version of the good life, one in which parents
can work remotely as "digital nomads," participate in like-minded
communities online, and expose their children to the risks,
opportunities, and life lessons that the world has to offer.
Ultimately, Germann Molz sheds light on the emerging phenomenon of
"worldschooling," showing that it is not just an alternative way to
educate children, but an altogether new kind of mobile lifestyle.
The World is Our Classroom paints an extreme portrait of
twenty-first century parenting and some families' attempts to raise
global citizens prepared to thrive in the uncertain world of
tomorrow.
With spread of remote work, digitalization of economy and gig economy, a new class of entrepreneurs arose – digital independent workers. Its ulterior form so far is digital nomads, who travel the ...world with limited or no fixed abode – and this is not a marginal group. Existing tax rules based on residence criteria do not suit these well: remote work severs ties between budget revenues from personal income tax and budget spending on local infrastructure, gig economy disrupts PAYE system, and digital nomads are at risk of being tax residents nowhere, and may not enjoy the same tax regimes as regular settled employees. This paper estimates the tax potential of digital independent workers, reviews their income structure, personal tax issues related to digital lifestyle and the solutions various countries employ to tax the income of these digital independent workers. The PAYE taxation of income of digital independent workers proposed by Russian politicians and internet companies seems to disregard the variety of that income. Digital independent workers prefer to register as sole proprietors or self-employed and enjoy special tax regimes where possible, but further research is necessary to manage their tax behavior, improve relevant tax control and solve double taxation issues.

This study aims to see the local perceptions towards foreign digital nomads in Bali because Bali has become one of the most wanted places for digital nomads to work and enjoy living. Besides that, ...Bali is also a tourist city where many international tourists visit annually. This study uses purposive sampling to gather data with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) data analysis techniques and Smart-PLS as a statistical tool for testing hypotheses. The respondents were taken online via Google form located in Bali, with 126 respondents from April to June 2023. The majority of the respondents are located in the Denpasar region, corresponding to 44.4% of the total, followed by the Badung region with 24.6% representation in Bali. The respondents are local Bali people who had interaction with digital nomads. The proposed model has six variables: Internet Quality (IQ), Technology Access (TA), Economy Impact (EI), Social-Culture Impact (SCI), Environment Impact (VI), and Attitude Digital Nomad (AT). This study aims to 5 hypotheses. The results show that the Technology Access to Attitude Digital Nomad hypothesis is insignificant compared to the previous literature.

While the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus took over and changed an increasing part of people's everyday lives, the spread of digital communication and teleworking grew. As a result, there is an ...increase in interest in a new way of working that is not tied to a physical workplace -digital nomadism. Nomads of the modern, digital age are people who use information and communication technology for work that they can do anywhere in the world, which gives them the luxury of freely choosing their residence. The Republic of Croatia was among the first countries in the European Union to open its doors to digital nomads, just behind Estonia. In the Republic of Croatia, the Foreigners Act regulates and defines the legal status of digital nomads as citizens of a third country (a country that is not a member state of the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation) who are employed or perform work through communication technology for a company or their own company that is not registered in the Republic Croatia and does not perform work or provide services to employers in the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Therefore, this paper will analyze the legal status of digital nomads from the administrative and tax aspects (de lege lata -de lege ferenda) in the Republic of Croatia and other member states of the European Union.
In this paper, we report on new findings about the results of an empirical study which aims to investigate how the COVID-19 pandemic has been shaping nomadic work practices and also challenging the ...lifestyles of digital nomads (DN). To do this, we collected textual data from posts in a Reddit community. We argue that, in order to understand how to design technical solutions for the so-called 'new normal' working conditions, one way to approach this is to understand how digital nomads are being impacted in their work practices and routines, and also how they are seeing the future of their technology-mediated work-life space. Finally, we show how evidence collected from DNs about their experiences and difficulties perceived during the pandemic period can inform CSCW researchers worldwide about future design-oriented strands.

With the recent growth and popularity of the concept "Digital Nomads" (DN) in industry, practitioner's outlets, and publications within the areas of information technology and tourism, this paper ...aims to address the question, "How academic research on Digital Nomads has developed within information systems discipline?". To get a better understanding of the research question, the authors conducted a systematic review of the publications available in the Association for Information Systems e-Library to examine the current state of research on DN within the area of information systems (IS). By following guidelines established for conducting reviews of literature in IS, the authors identified 23 papers containing the keyword "Digital Nomads". Further analysis of each paper revealed only 10 papers that directly addressed the topic of DN. This review paper has identified and presented various definitions of the concept of digital nomads / digital nomadism, a summary of objectives of identified articles, various characteristics of DN, the historical evolvement of the concept of DN, research methods/theories utilized in identified articles, and research gaps identified from relevant sample of articles. We conclude that further empirical research on this topic is needed since it has a significant impact on the future of digital work.

We report the first findings of an empirical study aimed at investigating how COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the work practices and lifestyles of digital nomads (DN). To do this, we analyzed ...messages, questions and comments posted by digital nomads in a specific online discussion community of the Reddit social network. Preliminary findings indicate COVID-19 as an opportunity to test DN lifestyle by aspiring digital nomads who want to plan their careers and also present evidence of an overload of online channels for actual DNs. On the other hand, we found that much of the literature on digital nomadism is fragmented and scattered through different disciplines and perspectives, with a strong focus on digital nomads' lifestyles. In order to obtain a holistic and unified understanding of digital nomads, we conducted a comprehensive literature review to further conceptualize the phenomenon under study.
Republika Hrvatska u kratkom roku je postala jedna od najpoželjnijih destinacija za digitalne nomade. Svojim aktivnostima i intervencijom u zakonodavnom okviru u svrhu olakšanog ulaska i rada ...digitalnih nomada, predstavlja pozitivan primjer provođenja uspješne strategije njihovog privlačenja.
