Establishing lean and green learning factories is a practical approach to meet rising resource efficiency requirements in industrial manufacturing. Besides lean aspects, the impact of increasing ...flexibility in intralogistics on energy consumption needs to be quantified and transferred to industry decision makers via suitable learning scenarios to deepen the understanding of energy-related dependencies of various transport technologies. This paper presents an approach for a systematic identification and implementation of lean and resource efficiency potentials focusing on automated guided vehicles.
Therefore, energy efficiency of alternative assets is measured, simulated and characterized by using Energy Performance Indicators.
Greenhouse gas emissions and energy usage are increasing rapidly, posing a significant threat to the environment and the sustainability of the Earth. One of the ways to mitigate this issue is through ...the implementation of Energy Management Systems (EnMS) in industries, where overall efficiency improvement and energy expenditures cutback are targeted. This work aims to address the energy consumption in a can manufacturing factory. Here, machine learning approach is used to optimize the energy performance of the compressed air system (CAS) which is the major contributor to the factory's energy usage at 38%. In this work, the Energy Performance Indicators (EnPI) of the CAS is predicted using KNN by employing the variables from CAS itself. The collected variables are first analyzed using Dataiku software and correlation matrix and heatmap technique, giving two sets of key features. The predicted EnPI showed high accuracy when compared to the actual values.
During a machine's design phase a lack of reliable specification data resulting from the use phase specific application leads to energy losses in various discrete manufacturing processes. The reason ...for instance could be inefficient design of drive components or insufficient machine control. In order to support machine designers with reliable input data to e.g. dimension drive components in energy efficient way, this contribution presents an approach how to measure and interprete energy consumption data of machines during its use phase. This can be applied to derive energy efficiency measures on components level. The identified measures then are implemented during the design phase of the next machine generation or realized during the machines use phase by energy efficient machine upgrading.
The Mediterranean climate is characterized by a high level of the solar resource in winter and some coolness of the nights in summer, which offer a good opportunity for thermal comfort achievement at ...low energy cost and reduced CO
2 emissions, provided that an appropriate design of the building envelope is adopted. It has thus been decided to implement some regulations in three countries of North-Africa for controlling the heating and cooling loads. The study described in this paper has been conducted in the frame of this project. It has two objectives: to define adequate indicators for the thermal performance of buildings during both the cold season and the hot one, and to develop a standard calculation procedure for these indicators. The developed procedure, CHEOPS, is fast and requires minimum input data; it is very easy to use, the steps for calculating the cooling and heating coefficients being almost the same. The transmission losses and the solar gains are clearly identified; this fact can contribute to a better understanding by the designer of the effect of each parameter, leading him towards the appropriate trade-offs between summer and winter considerations.
Road lighting standard in Thailand, however is still based on illuminance values which do not reflect the actual amount of light from road surface into drivers' eyes or luminance values. As a result, ...there is a need to revise Thai road lighting standard. Thai Industrial Standard Institute (TISI) has officially announced to use Thai recommendation for lighting of roads for motor and pedestrian traffic, TIS 2954 based on CIE 115 in 2019. This is the first step for such a revision on road lighting standard in Thailand. Three road classes; Motorized traffic (M), Conflict areas (C) and Pedestrian and low speed areas (P) classes were studied and classified based on PD CEN/TR EN 13201-1. Seven test sites were selected: four M lighting classes (M1 to M4), two C lighting classes (C1 and C2) and one P lighting class (P2) were used as case studies. Luminaires with high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps have been initially evaluated and then LED luminaires have replaced HPS luminaires and evaluated for comparisons based on important parameters in EN 13201-2 and -3. Measuring lighting performance was performed based on EN 13201-4 using an Imaging Luminance Measuring Device (ILMD) and illuminance photometer (class L). Energy performance indicators which are power density indicator (D P ) and annual energy consumption indicator (D E ) based on EN 13201-5 were calculated and compared. Average road surface luminance (Lav), overall uniformity of luminance (U o ), longitudinal uniformity (U l ), threshold increment (f TI ), surround ratio (R s ) and average illuminance (E) values are within the lighting criteria provided in EN 13201-2 for M and C lighting classes. Minimum maintained horizontal illuminance (E h ), maintained horizontal illuminance (E min ) and threshold increment values are within the lighting criteria provided in EN 13201-2 for P lighting class. Illuminance values from the design using ReluxDesktop program match actual measurement values with acceptable discrepancies for all lighting classes. Finally, a new concept of lighting system configuration and classification has been developed.
A special device for importing organic matter in the soil has been developed in Bulgaria for the purposes of the soil protection method of vertical mulching with ready - made compost. This device is ...aggregated with tractors with a nominal pulling capacity of 50 kN (John Deere 8230). The effective use of this tractor aggregate has made it necessary to perform a thorough study of some energy - performance indicators. The present article presents the results from this study. The findings prove that the selected energy - performance indicators of the aggregate for vertical mulching with ready - made compost permit its effective use and guarantee optimal pulling and speed work modes on sloping terrains of carbonate chernozems (black soil).
Organisations are not always taking the recommendations of ISO 50001 group of standards into account when establishing their internal operational Guidelines and, by doing so, they end up neglecting ...some rather significant Energy Performance Improvement Actions (EPIAs). In this paper, the Cost of Indecision generated by a poor Energy Management Procedure will be analysed for an industrial consumer. The Cost of Opportunity Analysis will reveal the financial losses generated by not implementing the already identified EPIAs as soon as financially possible.
As the European Union adopted the Green Deal 1 and proposed the framework for achieving climate neutrality by the end of 2050 2, industrial end-users are more focused than ever on achieving the ...highest possible environmental impact reduction. The main focus of future investment in the industrial sector will now be on diminishing the \mathrm{C}\mathrm{O}_{2, eq} emissions, in order to maintain financial stability, especially in the context of the fourth phase of the EU-ETS mechanism 3, which implies a constant reduction in the number of CO 2 certificates allocation until 2030. This will lead to a potential decrease of investment in the electricity end-use efficiency of various industrial sectors. In this paper, the economic impact generated by the power transformers in various industrial end-users boundaries, relative to actual operating scenarios was analysed in order to determine the best course of action for the sector to minimize the operating costs with the internal power distribution grids.
Self-producing electricity end-users operate for many years, especially in the Romanian industrial sector. The impact generated by the development of distributed Renewable Energy Source (RES) in ...recent years on the Energy Performance Indicators (EPIs) and on the Power Quality Indices (PQIs) of the distribution network was evaluated only for large scale projects such as Wind Farms (WF) and large Photovoltaic Power Plants (PPP). The impact generated by different types of RESs on the EPIs, respectively on the main PQIs, without a correlation between the two was already studied. In this paper, the impact of prosumers on the EPIs and the PQIs of an electricity distribution network was analyzed. The technic-economic analysis of a number of proposed EPIAs was realized, with respect to the aforementioned Indicators and Indices, thus optimizing the interdependency between them.
The need to reduce costs and to limit energy consumption, together with the availability of financial and carbon reduction incentives led many public authorities to undertake the renovation of public ...lighting installations. In the North of Italy, a major program of public lighting renovation has been implemented in Torino since 2015. To verify the effectiveness of the interventions, the performance of the new LED lighting systems compared to the previous installations was assessed through measurement campaigns and computer simulations. The paper presents the main features of the project, the methodology adopted for the performance evaluation campaign and the results obtained in terms of both lighting performance and energy performance.
