Purpose – At school, students often encounter various learning challenges, with a particular issue being their lack of motivation, which makes it difficult for them to absorb lessons. This research ...aims to investigate the procedures for developing Flash card learning media, assess its appropriateness, and identify the development of student learning motivation after the use of Flash cards in the Social Sciences subject, specifically the economic activity material, for class VII at Bustanul Ulum Islamic Junior High School. Method – The research method employed in this study is a type of Research and Development (R&D), specifically focusing on media research and development using the ADDIE model. ADDIE stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data collection involves the use of questionnaires from media experts, material experts, field practitioners, and student responses. Data analysis techniques incorporate both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Findings – The findings indicate that Flash card media is suitable for application and can significantly impact students, particularly in Social Studies subjects. This is evidenced by validation results from media experts, linguists, field practitioners, and the improved student scores compared to previous assessments. Research Implications – The implications of this research demonstrate that the application of Flash card learning media can enhance students' learning motivation. This research specifically focuses on the economic activity material in class VII Social Studies. The scope of the research is limited to one school and a specific set of subjects.

Introduction
As medical schools condense the basic science phase of undergraduate medical education, it has become increasingly important to identify methods and tools that facilitate learning, ...mastery, and application of medical knowledge. One increasingly popular tool that promotes engagement with content is Anki, a web-based flash card system. Using Anki, medical students can access pre-made flash cards specifically tailored to prepare students for the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1 exam. The objective of this study was to identify Anki use and its association to USMLE Step 1 performance.
Methods
In March 2020, medical students in years 2, 3, and 4 who had completed USMLE Step 1 were administered a survey to measure Anki usage. The survey was locally developed and was reviewed by survey experts on campus. Survey responses were paired with USMLE Step 1 results for analyses. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for analysis.
Results
Anki usage was associated with higher USMLE Step 1 scores. Additionally, amongst those who used Anki, those with more consistent use had higher USMLE Step 1 scores and higher perceived levels of knowledge retention.
Conclusions
This research suggests that Anki is an effective educational tool that should be recommended to medical students alongside other evidenced-based study tools, such as the popular question bank USMLE World. Future research should attempt to identify a relationship between Anki usage and future clinical performance to demonstrate the implications that Anki has on clinical skills.
Augmented reality (AR) has become a popular platform in education, providing an interactive and engaging way to learn through manipulatable communication. AR technology can increase motivation and ...retention of vocabulary. This study explores the efficacy of an AR-based flashcard application to teach basic Tamil words to primary school students in Madurai District, Tamil Nadu. The target sample included students in classes three, four, and five, who had minimal residual knowledge due to disrupted classroom learning from the pandemic period. The current study aimed to compare the level of learning achieved through traditional flashcards and AR-based flashcards. A total of 67 students (35 boys, 32 girls) were randomly divided into an experimental group (N = 31; 46.27%) and a control group (N = 36; 53.73%). Pre-tests followed by intervention and post-test design were adopted to establish the benefits of AR statistically and explained following the theoretical supplement of Piaget (
1964
). The results indicated that learning through AR-based flashcards enhanced primary students’ learning of basic Tamil and increased their interest in learning. This study might help learners move from the cognitive to the affective domain, leading to desirable changes in learning behaviour. AR technology provides diverse learning opportunities, and the flexibility of schema formation in this age group and enhanced through inductive logic. Further research may complement and induce the desire among educators to implement this technology in enhancing the power of flashcards and complementary diagrams.
Both theoretical and empirical evidence suggest that, in many markets with standards competition, network effects make the strong grow stronger and can “tip” the market toward a single, ...winner-take-all standard. We hypothesize, however, that low cost digital conversion technologies, which facilitate easy compatibility across competing standards, may reduce the strength of these network effects. We empirically test our hypotheses in the context of the digital flash memory card market. We first test for the presence of network effects in this market and find that network effects, as measured here, are associated with a significant positive price premium for leading flash memory card formats. We then find that the availability of digital converters reduces the price premium of the leading flash card formats and reduces the overall concentration in the flash memory market. Thus, our results suggest that, in the presence of low cost conversion technologies and digital content, the probability of market dominance can be lessened to the point where multiple, otherwise incompatible, standards are viable. Our conclusion that the presence of converters weakens network effects implies that producers of non-dominant digital goods standards benefit from the provision of conversion technology. Our analysis thus aids managers seeking to understand the impact of converters on market outcomes, and contributes to the existing literature on network effects by providing new insights into how conversion technologies can affect pricing strategies in these increasingly important digital settings.
Many juvenile offenders have reading difficulties, but provision of successful reading interventions in youth facilities is lacking. The reading difficulties are often related to the poor schooling ...backgrounds of the juvenile offender, who consequently has not developed good reading skills. The computerized flash-card method is based on the theory of sight word reading (Ehri, 2005), which means that the reader has access to a form of sight vocabulary in their memory, and reading becomes more effective when words are decoded automatically. The present study aimed to investigate whether a computerized flash-card method could improve the decoding skills of incarcerated youth. Ten participants were recruited from special residential homes for youths in Sweden. They performed decoding tests before and after the reading intervention, and they received individualized decoding tasks. The intervention was implemented for 15 minutes three times a week over eight weeks. The results showed that after the intervention phonological and orthographical decoding skills had significantly improved. Possible explanations for the positive outcome are discussed in relation to feedback, control, and direct instruction. Based on these promising results, it is desirable to further investigate the computerized flash-card method with larger samples and case-control designs.
The focus of this article is intervention for third-grade students with serious mathematics deficits at third grade. In third grade, such deficits are clearly established, and identification of ...mathematics disabilities typically begins. We provide background information on two aspects of mathematical cognition that present major challenges for students in the primary grades: number combinations and story problems. We then focus on seven principles of effective intervention. First, we describe a validated, intensive remedial intervention for number combinations and another for story problems. Then, we use these interventions to illustrate the first six principles for designing intensive tutoring protocols for students with mathematics disabilities. Next, using the same validated interventions, we report the percentage of students whose learning outcomes were inadequate despite the overall efficacy of the interventions and explain how ongoing progress monitoring represents a seventh, and perhaps the most essential, principle of intensive intervention. We conclude by identifying issues and directions for future research in the primary and later grades.
