The prevalence of animals in society, and recognition of the multiplicity of roles they play in human social life, has invoked significant interest from certain subsections of the social sciences. ...However, research in this area, to date, tends to be at an empirical and inherently psychological level. It is the contention of the current article that we need to redress this imbalance if we are to create a legitimate space wherein sociology can be used to investigate human-animal relations/interactions. In order to achieve this, an examination of the foundations of sociological thought is needed. This is explored in the current article through the use of one substantive, highly topical, subject in human-animal studies: the human-animal abuse ‘link.’
Undergraduate research experiences (UREs) have been considered as a high impact practice because it promotes knowledge acquisition, professional advancement, and personal development (Lopatto, 2010). Many studies on UREs focused on nature-science students working in labs or with a group in research courses. However, few studies examined students in applied linguistics departments, and far fewer studies discussed UREs of English majors in the EFL context. This study investigated UREs of English majors from the perspectives of EFL learners and instructors in Taiwan. Nine instructors and 23 Applied English Majors participated in the study. Two modified questionnaires on UREs were distributed to students and instructors respectively for data collection. The data colle
This article discusses the student support system at Hiroshima Shudo University and a 2015 case of tutoring a developmentally challenged student in the department of English language and literature ...at HSU. It describes the process in which the student studied for his graduation thesis. He obtained reliable text materials from the Internet, processed them with a concordance program, a text editor, a spreadsheet program, and compiled his results with a word processor.
This contribution stems from the personal experience of the author regarding how he became acquainted with embryology and how he finally entered the field of developmental biology. It reports his ...feelings as a student of the Histology and Embryology course as it was taught in the late 1970s, and his present efforts in teaching developmental biology to university students. In the Developmental Biology course at Pisa University today, students are taught the tissue, molecular and genetic mechanisms that regulate development of several model systems. Drosophila is introduced at the beginning, because of the great knowledge that it has brought to the unraveling of the molecular aspects of development and because it allows several basic concepts to be introduced, and vertebrate systems follow. Other topics include the classic experiments on amphibian systems, which are explained in the light of recent molecular advances, as well as the genetically more versatile vertebrate systems such as the mouse.
The score evaluation of graduation thesis is an important means to inspect, evaluate and promote graduation thesis. In this paper, by using the significance test method of the multivariate ...statistical analysis, we examined the impact significance of each evaluation index on graduation thesis total evaluation result, based on this to select the appropriate evaluation index and to construct a score evaluation model. By means of BP neural network, we constructed the non-linear model between the graduation thesis evaluation indices and overall mark, and finally formed an effective score evaluation method on graduation thesis.
Because engineering design, that is very important not only to nation’ s economy but also to sustainability of the earth, is conducted mainly by engineers, design education is the core of engineering ...education. In addition, the collaborative design education is very important for deep understanding of knowledge and the development of creativity, social skills and others. This paper presents the global trend, educational contents, pedagogy, in particular project-based learning, and evaluation of the design education. Further, it discusses the graduation thesis, which many faculties consider so important that they reject to replace with design project, in terms of its purpose, importance and educational methods, and points out that the conventional education should be changed to the combined education of knowledge acquirement and application such as the design.
