Tinder is a popular mobile dating app among young adults that may be used to facilitate meeting extradyadic partners. Participants who had used or were using Tinder (n=550) indicated that most knew ...somebody who had used Tinder to meet extradyadic partners, and several participants reported that their own infidelity had been facilitated by Tinder. Participants were varied as to whether Tinder was an effective method for meeting extradyadic partners. Sociosexuality and intentions to engage in infidelity were associated with having used Tinder to engage in infidelity. Gender was not significantly associated with using Tinder to meet extradyadic partners when sociosexuality and intentions to engage in infidelity were also included in analyses.

Despite having an easy option to end the relationship and start a new one, many individuals betray their dating partner. In order to understand why, the present study explored the reasons for ...infidelity in dating relationships. Forty heterosexual adult participants (21 males and 19 females; M
age
= 27.15) who had themselves engaged in infidelity participated in the study. The participants were recruited through the snowball sampling method. The study followed narrative methodology, where the perpetrators themselves narrated their cheating stories. The content analysis of narratives was done using Quirkos software. The findings reported numerous motivational factors contributing to infidelity in dating, which were clubbed into four factors: personal, relationship, third-party, and situational factors. Though many motives of infidelity in dating are similar to married individuals, only certain aspects are specific to a dating relationship, such as uncertainty about ‘the one’ revenge. The study not only shows the importance of personal, situational, and relationship factors but also stresses on third-party-factors, like love, attraction. The results show these reasons/factors may present alone to make individuals cheat or could present in combination or even in sequence. The results of the study can be useful in understanding and helping the dating couples going through such issues.
Resumen Objetivo: El presente estudio de tipo instrumental tuvo como objetivo diseñar y validar una escala cuya finalidad es evaluar la percepción de las personas frente a las cuatro dimensiones de ...la infidelidad -sexual, emocional, cognitiva y virtual-, a través de dos subdimensiones de la cognición -motivos y consecuencias- Método: Para ello se realizó una tabla de especificaciones y se construyeron los ítems, los cuales fueron sometidos a validación por jueces. Se realizó el ajuste a la escala y esta fue aplicada a una muestra voluntaria de 301 participantes con edades entre los 18 y 70 años ( = 29.84; DE = 14.07), y que además contaran con habilidades cognitivas básicas de comprensión lectora. Resultados: Tras realizar el análisis factorial exploratorio, se encontraron siete factores que explican el 48,64 % de la varianza total acumulada, y el índice de extracción permitió la conservación de todos los ítems, modelo factorial confirmado, con adecuados niveles de bondad de ajuste (CFI = .910; RMSEA = .049). Además de ello, con el Alfa de Cronbach general de .84 se evidenció una alta confiabilidad de la escala y con un coeficiente de dos mitades de Guttman de .87 se encontró una fuerte relación entre dos mitades. Conclusión: la Escala de Evaluación Cognitiva de Infidelidad es un instrumento pionero que permite evaluar con criterios de validez y confiabilidad el fenómeno de la infidelidad.
The existing literature indicates that sexual and emotional infidelities are common in adult romantic relationships. Additionally, research suggests that such infidelity is highly detrimental to ...relationship longevity and to the well-being of betrayed partners, with some authors characterizing it as a trauma and noting its potential to constitute an "attachment injury." This literature review summarizes the existing research on how infidelity impacts romantic relationships and its emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and stress-related physical health consequences for betrayed partners, thereby providing greater specificity to the nature of this trauma or attachment injury. The integration of the findings discussed herein suggests that infidelity-based attachment trauma manifestations may resemble disorganized attachment behavior. The implications for clinical practice are discussed. Based on these consequences, we evaluate the common "adjustment disorder" diagnosis for infidelity-based attachment trauma and suggest a refined diagnostic sub-categorization for cases with traumatic symptomatology. Finally, we provide recommendations for future research.
The present investigation explored how individuals in heterosexual relationships process and respond to a romantic partner's imagined infidelity with someone of the same sex. Study 1 entailed a ...qualitative analysis of individuals’ reported reasons for their own or a friend's same-sex infidelity, revealing that individuals engage in same-sex infidelity for unique motives, such as for experimentation. Study 2 focused specifically on female participants and tested whether the motivation for infidelity (e.g., vengeance, experimentation, jealousy) predicted differences in participants’ expectations of how they would respond to the infidelity. The findings revealed that women were the most likely to report that they would confront the situation, continue the relationship, and show benevolence when experimentation was the underlying reason for the infidelity. These findings and their implications for understanding women's reactions to their male partners’ same-sex infidelity are discussed.
In two studies, Pham and Shackelford (2013) and Pham et al. (2013) analyzed the relations between oral sexual behavior and partner infidelity risk in heterosexual couples. They found that indicators ...of partners' risk of infidelity were significantly associated with men's, but not women's interest in, and time spent performing oral sex after controlling for relationship length, relationship satisfaction and duration of sexual intercourse. We conducted a preregistered close replication of the methods and analyses of these studies using two distinct samples. In both samples, partner infidelity risk was not significantly associated with greater interest in and duration of oral sex for men or for women. The associations between infidelity risk and oral sexual behaviors were not significantly different between men and women, consistent with the original research. Exploratory analyses showed participants who suspected their partners of being unfaithful had significantly lower scores on the partner infidelity risk measure than those who did not hold those suspicions in Sample 1, while no significant difference emerged in Sample 2. These findings challenge the validity of the original partner infidelity risk measure. Overall, the current study offers contradictory evidence for the proposed evolutionary explanation for the adaption of oral sexual behaviors in humans.

Leaving one mating relationship and entering another, serial mating, is commonly observed in many cultures. An array of circumstances can prompt a mate switch. These include (1) unanticipated costs ...inflicted by one's mate, or ‘relationship load,’ not apparent on the initial mate selection; (2) changes in the mate value of either partner, creating discrepancies where none previously existed; and (3) the arrival of a new and interested potential mate of sufficiently incremental value to offset the costs of a breakup. The mate switching hypothesis suggests that these circumstances created adaptive problems throughout human evolution that forged adaptations to anticipate and appraise opportunities to mate-switch, implement exit strategies, and manage challenges confronted in the aftermath. We review several studies that support various aspects of the mate switching hypothesis: The cultivation of ‘back-up mates,’ assessing mate-inflicted costs that comprise relationship load, monitoring selfishly-skewed welfare tradeoff ratios in a partner, gauging mate value discrepancies, and anticipating sexual, emotional, and economic infidelities. The mate switching hypothesis provides both a complementary, and in some instances a competing, explanation to the ‘good genes’ hypothesis for why women have sexual affairs, and parsimoniously explains a host of other mating phenomena that remain inexplicable on alternative accounts.

Infidelity in marriage has long been a problem among married men and women in Nigerian society and globally. The study explores traditional and Biblical notions of marital infidelity in the context ...of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the goal of identifying some of the key reasons and effects of infidelity among Nigeria's Igbo people. For data analysis, the study used a qualitative phenomenological research design and a descriptive approach. Personal interviews were the major source of data collecting, whereas library materials including academic articles, the media and books were the secondary sources utied. According to the research, many spouses in traditional Igbo Cultural Marriage spend time away from each other for farming and other hobbies. Couples were spending more time together than normal during the Covid-19 epidemic. Domestic violence suffered during the pandemic, as a result, may have led to one partner seeking love, care, and support outside of the marriage union, culminating in infidelity. Financial uncertainty, as well as other factors such as unemployment,
a lack of social support, and heightened stress, are all factors that contribute to marital infidelity during a pandemic and at other times. The study proposes that both the male and female in a marriage should have correct religious and social attitudes and dispositions in order to have a healthy and prosperous family during times such as the Covid-19 pandemic and at all times.
Infidelity is relatively common, with culprits not always been able to keep it secret from their partners. Accordingly, the current research aimed to study people's reactions to their partners' ...infidelity. More specifically, using qualitative research methods on a sample of 226 Greek‐speaking participants, Study 1 identified 94 possible reactions to infidelity. Study 2 employed quantitative research methods on a sample of 757 Greek‐speaking participants, and classified these reactions into 17 broad factors. Among the most probable reactions, were experiencing negative emotions, terminating the relationship, keeping physical distance from the unfaithful partner, and getting more information about the incident. Significant gender and age effects were found for several of the extracted factors. Using second‐order principal components analysis, the extracted factors were classified into four broader domains. The current research contributes to understanding an important aspect of human mating behavior, and its findings could be used to develop better ways to deal with infidelity.
