Building on a long tradition of measuring cultural logics from a relational perspective, we analyze a recent survey of American university students to assess whether institutional logics operate in ...the lived experience of individuals. An institutional logic is an analytic troika of object, practice, and subject linked together through dually ordered systems of articulations. Using the formal method of correspondence analysis (MCA) we identify two latent dimensions that order physical, verbal, emotional, categorical, and moral practices of and investments in love. We take these dimensions as evidence of an institutional logic. The dominant first dimension is organized through talk of love, non-genital physical intimacies, and affective investment. It has no sexual specificity. The subsidiary second dimension is organized through moral investment and it has a genital sexual specificity. There is little difference between women and men, either in the way these dimensions are organized or in the location of men and women within these dimensionalized spaces. We find that romantic love has a situated material effect in terms of increasing the probabilities of orgasm.

The evolving nature of the fight for liberation in relation to technology, society, and capitalism is discussed, highlighting the Love Letters to Movement Leaders collection.The Love Letters to ...Movement Leaders collection is introduced as a means of deepening this relationship, although it is acknowledged that it does not cover all issues and identities. The transformative power of letter writing is highlighted, particularly in breaking the isolation experienced by incarcerated individuals and affirming their deserving of care, love, and support. A workshop on abolition and decarceration, where participants wrote love letters to two incarcerated comrades, Patti Waller and Tien Pham, is also tackled.
En la primera y única novela que publicó, Nuevas cumbres (1923), María Jesús Alvarado relata la fundación de Ciudad Cumbre, una colonia modelo de la sociedad ideal que su creadora, Luz Acmé, instala ...“en las selvas ubérrimas de Oriente” y en la que habitan 10 000 colonos. Pero el tema central de la novela es la narración de la búsqueda de la pareja perfecta –el esposo, el socio, el amigo–, a quien por sus méritos Luz Acmé le otorgará el rol de cofundador. La sucesión de los pretendientes, aspirantes a formar parte de la pareja fundadora, y las razones por las que son rechazados –a excepción del último–, componen un discurso sobre el amor al que hago dialogar, en el presente trabajo, con los Fragmentos del discurso amoroso, de Roland Barthes. Me interesa destacar cómo la mujer, objeto amoroso en los Fragmentos de Barthes, adquiere voz y agencia en el discurso de Luz Acmé.
In the first and only novel she published, Nuevas Cumbres (1923), María Jesús Alvarado recounts the founding of Ciudad Cumbre, a model colony of the ideal society that its creator, Luz Acmé, installed “en las selvas ubérrimas de Oriente” and in which is inhabited by 10,000 settlers. But the central theme of the novel is the narration of the search for the perfect partner – the husband, the partner, the friend – to whom, due to his merits, Luz Acmé will grant the role of co-founder. The succession of the suitors, aspiring to be part of the founding couple, and the reasons why they are rejected – except for the last one – make up a discourse on love that I make dialogue, in the present work, with the Fragments of the love speech, by Roland Barthes. I am interested in highlighting how the woman, a love object in Barthes' Fragments, acquires voice and agency in Luz Acmé's speech.
Psychologists' efforts to understand love began in the mid-twentieth century. The fact that they continue apace in the twenty-first century reflects increased awareness of the importance of love to ...understanding relationship phenomena and acknowledgment that an understanding of love has yet to be achieved. This article (a) describes one source of increased recognition that the present confusions surrounding love must be transcended if progress is to be made in understanding many relationship phenomena; (b) discusses the failure to explicate the love construct, which constitutes the major obstacle to the study of love phenomena; (c) discusses the need for a temporal model of love in relationships; and (d) suggests that it is important to consider the presence or absence of four types of love, each of which appears to be associated with different causal conditions and thus is likely to have a different temporal course as an adult relationship moves through time.
A number of authors claim that Western European modern romantic love has been ‘gamified’ by digital apps and platforms, resulting in a ludic market logic that is increasingly compulsive and even ...addictive. This paper will suggest that modern romantic love was, in fact, predicated on games, particularly games of chance and competition. These games are seen to provide a number of functions, including homosocial bonding, the vindication of personal responsibility, and bringing about the probability of the improbable. The paper examines changing attitudes to chance at several key historical moments in Western Europe, changes which we can discern in romantic codification, as well as in the modern economy. We trace these tendencies to digital corporations, where gathered behavioural data accelerates the capacity to economize and determine futures.
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between high school students' compassionate love levels and peer bullying behaviors. The sample of the research consists of a total of 560 high ...school students attending the 9th, 10th and 11th grades of Anatolian High School and Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Kağıthane district of Istanbul province in the 2020-2021 academic year. Personal Information Form, Compassionate Love Scale and Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form were used to collect data. In this research, the relational scanning model, one of the descriptive research types, was used. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to examine the relationship between Compassionate Love Scale Scores and Peer Bullying, Bully-Victim Subscale Scores and Total Scores, and Regression Analysis was used to test the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a weak, statistically significant negative relationship between high school students' compassionate love levels and being victims of peer bullying. The Regression Analysis of the Compassionate Love Scale scores with the peer bullying victim scale scores was found to be significant. Compassionate Love Scale scores explain 4% of the variance in peer bullying victim subscale scores.
This article reconsiders one of the most important theories of romantic love in contemporary philosophy, the theory of love as union. Drawing on observations from transpersonal research, the article ...raises the question whether it is not worthwhile to accept, at least partially, a strong sense of union in the context of love. Thus the article takes a position that is not taken by anyone in contemporary philosophy. In this context, the article also briefly analyses one of the most important variants of love as union, a union with God. At the end, the suggestion is made that it makes more sense to talk about connections rather than relations in the case of fulfilled love.
Šiuo straipsniu naujai persvarstoma viena svarbiausių romantinės meilės teorijų šiuolaikinėje filosofijoje – meilės kaip vienio teorija. Remiantis iš transpersonalinio tyrimo kylančiais pastebėjimais, straipsnyje klausiama, ar nebūtų verta pripažinti, kad meilė neatsiejama nuo stipraus vienio jausmo. Taigi autorius laikosi nuostatos, kurios šiuolaikinėje filosofijoje nesilaiko niekas. Šiame kontekste straipsnyje taip pat glaustai apžvelgiamas vienas iš svarbiausių meilės kaip vienio variantų – vienio su Dievu. Straipsnis baigiamas pasiūlymu, kad, kalbant apie išsipildžiusią meilę, būtų prasmingiau kalbėti apie ryšius, o ne apie santykius.
