The findings on the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and outcomes in adulthood cover a wide subject area. In order to understand the results of ACE studies and plan adequate ...measures, the role of social work should not be disregarded. This paper studies the topic of ACEs, positive childhood experiences and the association with the subjective experience of poverty, which has rarely been addressed, but is relevant to social work. The research was based on simple and extended ACE questionnaires and was conducted amongst the adult population of Slovenia (n = 4939). The results found that adverse material position is associated with a higher amount of adverse and a lower amount of positive childhood experiences (on average, people with adverse material position have 3.43 ACEs and 7.77 positive experiences, while those with better material position have only 1.75 ACEs and 9.82 positive experiences). Social work needs to provide measures on a systemic level to improve the material position of families and to develop programmes based on the poverty aware paradigm to support partnership and interparental relationships in order to decrease the incidence of ACE. In addition, people need adequate support (e.g. trauma-informed care) when recovering from ACE and to enhance their resilience.
Students' mental health is recognised as an important public health issue, and the strict measures and many changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic may have exacerbated this. The aims of the ...study were thus to explore psychological well-being among university students in Slovenia during the beginning of the second lockdown, and to assess associations among their psychological well-being, demographic characteristics, presence of a chronic health condition, and resilience.
The Slovenian online cross-sectional survey was performed as part of a large-scale international survey led by the COVID-HL Consortium, between the 2nd and 23rd November 2020. The study was carried out on a sample of 3,468 university students (70% female) in Slovenia, aged between 18 to 40 (M=22/SD=3). In addition to sociodemographic data and that on the presence of a chronic health condition, data on subjective social status (SSS), psychological well-being (WHO-5) and resilience (CD-RISC 10) was also gathered.
In our study 52% of university students reported good psychological well-being. Hierarchical binary logistic regression revealed that male, older students, those with higher perceived subjective social status, students without a chronic health condition, and those with higher score on resilience were more likely to have good psychological well-being. Resilience was the strongest predictor of psychological well-being in our study.
Systematic preventive approaches/interventions in the field of mental health should be implemented among students in Slovenia. In this context it is important to develop and deliver programmes for enhancing resilience, which is an important protective factor in times of mental distress.
The abrasion resistance of the Ti-5Al-4Zr-4Mo-2Cr-2Sn-1Fe alloy was investigated using multi-pass dual-indenter (MPDI) scratch tests with different loading conditions under a repetitive local sliding ...contact. Various microstructures were obtained with different heat treatments. The effect of the phase morphology on the scratch resistance and corresponding failure mechanisms were revealed. Results show that the phase morphology has a great influence on the scratch resistance and that the effect is contact-load dependent. The scratch behaviour is linked to the initial surface hardness at low loading conditions, while the work-hardening ability is more relevant at high loading conditions.
S finančnega vidika so manjše kratkoročne investicije dražje, saj odlašanje s posegi v temeljito trajnostno prenovo stavb povzroča večja tveganja. Pristojni organi se trenutno odločajo med hitrimi in zapoznelimi ukrepi, uravnoteženjem stroškov zgodnjega ukrepanja in vzajemnimi stroški zamud.
