This work presents an approach that integrates the results of measuring, analyzing, and modeling air flow phenomena driven by pressurized air in a flue organ pipe. The investigation concerns a ...Bourdon organ pipe. Measurements are performed in an anechoic chamber using the Cartesian robot equipped with a 3D acoustic vector sensor (AVS) that acquires both acoustic pressure and air particle velocity. Also, a high-speed camera is employed to observe the jet coming out from the windway. For that purpose, the steam resulting from dry ice and hot water is used. A numerical simulation of the sounding mechanism of a pipe of the same geometry is based on measuring the pressure signal and the intensity field around the mouth employing an intensity probe and visualizing and observing the motion of the air jet, which represents the excitation mechanism of the system. The ParaVIEW software serves for the simulation and visualization of the air jet. Then, the results obtained from measurements and simulations are compared and discussed. Also, some future directions discussing the application of a machine-learning approach to the area of pipe organ air flow investigation are contained in the Conclusions section.
•Infinitesimal phase response curves (iPRCs) of an actual organ pipe were measured.•Accurate iPRC was obtained from the pipe's entrainments to sinusoidal forcing.•Pulse forcing gave the same spectral ...structure of iPRC as the sinusoidal forcing.•Obtained iPRCs indicate that the pipe's second resonance was dominant.
The infinitesimal phase response curve (iPRC) of an organ pipe was measured using two types of external forcing, namely, sinusoidal and pulse forcing. Although the measured iPRCs exhibited different shapes because of the difficulty in realizing ideal pulses in acoustic experiments, the spectral structures agreed between both methods. Both measurements indicated that an external sound, which matched the pipe's second resonance, could most effectively induce frequency locking. Acoustically, this may be considered as a consequence of the pipe's open end. Our study is of significant importance in understanding the characteristics of frequency locking among organ pipes.
The paper analyses the development of the structure and content of pipe organ catalogues that have appeared in Slovenian organology since the beginning of twentieth century. Of seventy catalogues ...describing multiple organs, particular attention is devoted to ten, especially the inventories of the Maribor (1911) and Ljubljana (1918) Dioceses, and the monograph Orgle Slovenije (2018).
In his nearly forty-year career, Johann Scheibe became Leipzig's
most renowned organ builder and one of the late Baroque's masters
of the craft. Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Kuhnau considered
...Scheibe a valued colleague. Organists and civic leaders shared
their high opinion, for Scheibe built or rebuilt every one of the
city's organs.
Drawing on extensive research and previously untapped archival
materials, Lynn Edwards Butler explores Scheibe's professional
relationships and the full range of his projects. These assignments
included the three-manual organ for St. Paul's Church, renovations
of the organs in the important churches of St. Thomas and St.
Nicholas, and the lone surviving example of Scheibe's craft, a
small organ in the nearby village of Zschortau. Viewing Scheibe
within the context of the era, Butler illuminates the music scene
of Bach's time as she follows the life of a gifted craftsman and
his essential work on an instrument that anchored religious musical
practice and community.
Several strategies for navigation in unfamiliar environments have been explored, notably leveraging advanced sensors and control algorithms for obstacle recognition in autonomous vehicles. This study ...introduces a novel approach featuring a redesigned joystick equipped with stepper motors and linear drives, facilitating WiFi communication with a four-wheel omnidirectional electric vehicle. The system’s drive units integrated into the joystick and the encompassing control algorithms are thoroughly examined, including analysis of stick deflection measurement and inter-component communication within the joystick assembly. Unlike conventional setups in which the joystick is tilted by the operator, two independent linear drives are employed to generate ample tensile force, effectively “overpowering” the operator’s input. Running on a Raspberry Pi, the software utilizes Python programming to enable joystick tilt control and to transmit orientation and axis deflection data to an Arduino unit. A fundamental haptic effect is achieved by elevating the minimum pressure required to deflect the joystick rod. Test measurements encompass detection of obstacles along the primary directions perpendicular to the electric vehicle’s trajectory, determination of the maximum achievable speed, and evaluation of the joystick’s maximum operational range within an illuminated environment.
"This anthology presents music pedagogical research as a field of integrated reflection that transcends institutional and disciplinary barriers. The anthology aims to reinforce thinking, knowledge ...development and collaboration in the broad landscape of music pedagogical research and education. The authors are associated with performance music education, pre-service and in-service teacher education, specialist music teacher education, and early childhood teacher education. Through 14 chapters, the anthology examines admission tests and assessment guidelines in performing music education, music in interdisciplinary work in teacher education, notions of musicality in early childhood teacher education, entrepreneurship in higher music education, the principle instrument in general music teacher education, evaluation of concert production in music teacher education, multiculturalism across various music teacher educations, pipe organ education for children, dilemmas in Scandinavian choir-leader education, work experiences of female professors in music education, a performing musician’s path to becoming a researcher, state funding and the mandate of performance music education, and the discursive terms of music/teacher education at four institutions of higher education. The topics and discussions addressed in these chapters are central across the higher educational programs that qualify students to teach in the various fields of music education."

•Lead–tin alloyed artifacts are protected using a lead dodecanoate coating.•Electrochemical and immersion deposition are used.•SEM–EDS and XRD measurements confirm the formation of a lead dodecanoate ...layer.•EIS measurements show a clear corrosion inhibition using the immersion technique.
In order to understand the corrosive and morphological characteristics of lead dodecanoate protective coatings on real samples, three pipe organ samples were studied using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The corrosion products and elemental composition of the top layer of the different pipe organ samples were investigated. The results indicate that the three pipe organ samples are made of an alloy composed mainly of lead and tin. After immersion and the deposition of the protective coating, only lead and no tin is detected, which indicates the formation of a thick coating containing lead dodecanoate complexes.
