Abstract
Objectives
There is currently trend that plasma might be alternative to serum due to some of its advantages. This study aimed to compare test results from heparinized plasma and serum.
...Methods
Blood samples from total of 40 participants (20 healthy, 20 hemodialysis patients) were drawn into serum gel tubes with clot activator and lithium heparin gel tubes. Twenty-eight clinical chemistry analytes were measured in serum and plasma samples. To determine whether difference between test results is clinically significant, total error (TE) was calculated and compared total allowable error (TEa) limits.
Results
TE of below 5% was calculated for amylase, AST, calcium, total cholesterol, chloride, CK, glucose, HDL-cholesterol, iron, LDH, LDL-cholesterol, magnesium, sodium, total bilirubin, uric acid and urea. Albumin, ALT, creatinine, CRP, lipase, phosphorus, potassium, total protein, and triglyceride had TE of 5–7%. TE of 7–10% were determined for ALP, direct bilirubin, and GGT. TE values were within TEa limits for all analytes.
Conclusions
It was concluded that results of 28 analytes measured in lithium heparin gel tubes are comparable to those of serum gel tubes. It is thought that several advantages including reduced turnaround time might be provided by using plasma instead of serum for these tests.
The treatment of polyester fabric in alkali medium is
a common chemical modification process for producing a fabric with desirable
qualities such as soft cloth, fabric regain, water absorbency, and ...fabric
pilling with draping. However, if the optimization of the chemical treatment
was not maintained, there could be serious decrease in mechanical strength of
polyester fabrics. In this study, surface modification via low-temperature
plasma application (<50 0C) were used as an alternative to
chemical modification of polyester fabrics with alkaline treatment and the
effects of both chemical and surface modification on mechanical and chemical
properties of polyester fabrics were investigated. Parameters of chemical modification such as
exposure time and concentration of alkali were varied while different exposure
time was used in plasma application as a surface modification treatment.
Performance tests such as mechanical strength, loss of weight and
hydrophilicity of polyester fabrics were tested after each modification.
Scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrographs were characterized as well.
According to the test results; loss of weight of polyester fabrics after
chemical modification was more than occurred right after surface modification.
Advantages of surface modification on polyester fabrics were clearly seen in
this study, especially when compared to high concentration alkali treatment. It
was also considered that these functionalized polyester fabrics could be used
as an alternative platform for 3DP (three-dimentional printing) applications
before deposition of the polymers.
Polyester kumaşların alkali ortamda işlem görmesi kumaşların
yumuşak tutum, hidrofilik karakter kazanması, dökümlü bir kumaş haline gelmesi
gibi istenen özelliklere sahip olmasını sağlayan alışılmış bir uygulamadır.
Fakat yapılan bu kimyasal modifikasyon işleminin parametreleri optimize
edilmediğinde, polyester kumaşların mekanik mukavemetlerinde ciddi düşüşler
görülebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, düşük sıcaklıkta yapılan (<50 0C) plazma aplikasyonu ile yüzey modifikasyon
işlemi; polyester kumaşların kimyasal modifikasyon işlemlerine bir alternatif
olarak kullanılmıştır ve her iki modifikasyon işleminin polyester kumaşların
mekanik ve kimyasal özelliklerine olan etkileri incelenmiştir. Süre ve
konsantrasyon gibi kimyasal modifikasyon işleminin parametreleri
çeşitlendirilirken, yüzey modifikasyon işleminde kumaşlar farklı plazma işlem
sürelerine tabi tutulmuştur. Her iki modifikasyondan sonra, polyester
kumaşların mekanik özellikleri, hidrofilite değerleri ve ağırlık kayıpları gibi
performans değerleri incelenmiş, taramalı elektron mikroskobu (SEM) görüntüleri
alınmıştır. Test sonuçlarına göre; kimyasal modifikasyondan sonra kumaşlarda
oluşan ağırlık kaybı plazma işlemi ile yapılan yüzey modifikasyonu işlemine
oranla daha fazla olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, özellikle yüksek konsantrasyonda
yapılan alkali işleme göre; polyester kumaşlara uygulanan yüzey modifikasyon
işleminin pek çok avantajı görülmüştür. Fonksiyonelleştirilmiş bu polyester
kumaşların üç boyutlu baskı uygulamalarında polimer aktarılmadan önce
alternatif bir platform olarak kullanılabileceği düşünülmüştür.
D2, D6 and Calmax cold work tool steels were heat treated in vacuum hardening, made grinding and plasma nitrided in 75% N2 + 25% H2 atmosphere at 450 °C for 12 h at 2 mbar. Characterization of ...samples has been carried out by means of surface roughness, microstructure, microhardness and wear-friction. Wear-friction characteristics of samples have been investigated using a ball-on-disc tribosystem with a WC-Co ball. Plasma nitriding increased the surface roughness of samples. However, this effect was decreased with higher surface roughness of base metal. Fe4N (γ'), Fe3N (ε) and CrN phases were obtained on the surfaces of samples. Higher surface hardness was obtained in the plasma nitrided D2 and D6 steels. No significant mass loss was observed in the ball on-disc tribosystem. So, the wear of samples was characterized with the worn surfaces using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Plasma nitriding improved the wear resistance and decreased the friction coefficient of steels. Plasma nitrided D2 steel showed the highest wear resistance, whereas plasma nitrided Calmax steel exhibited the lowest wear resistance. However, plasma nitrided Calmax tool steel had relatively lower friction coefficient than the other plasma nitrided steels. In general, brittle layer fractures have determined the friction coefficient.

Materials and methods
Thirty-two samples were obtained from patients after the hemodialysis were included in this study. Eight routine clinical chemistry parameters (AST, creatinin, urea, PTH, glucose, LDH, K, calcium) were measured on Roche Cobas Analyzer (Roche Diagnostics, North America). The results of samples obtained from RST and Barricor™ were compared with SST as reference tubes.
Results
Results of Glucose, K, Urea, PTH from the SST and Barricor™ were statistically significantly different (p = 0.017, p < 0.001, p = 0.011, p < 0.001, respectively). In addition, results of PTH, LDH from SST and RST were significantly different (p < 0.001, p = 0.019). However, statistical significance of test results was not clinically significant for the biochemical parameters.
Conclusion
Working with Barricor™ may provide not just a fast, clean, high-quality plasma samples, safety results, but also time and cost-effectivity. Therefore, these types of tubes, which are less costly than other BCTs, may be preferred to obtain plasma.
