The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the Profile of Mood States (POMS) and performance in a professional basketball team.
seven male professional basketball players ...playing for the defending champions of the Israel Basketball League participated in this study.
the POMS was administered seven times (T1-T7) during the season. The initial POMS administration was performed three weeks following the start of preseason practice and one day prior to the first basketball game. Each of the other POMS administrations were performed two days following a game and no more than 2 days before the next game.
Typical iceberg profiles were observed during T1, T2 and T3, which coincided with successful performance (winning percentages greater than 60% between each POMS administration). Subsequent decreases in performance between T3 and T4 (a 33% winning percentage) resulted in a decrease in vigor and an increase in anger. As team performance improved between T4 and T5 (winning percentage again above 60%), vigor returned to its original level. However, the mood states anger and depression remained elevated, even during successful team play. This may have been related to problems independent of basketball performance (coaching and financial).
These results suggest that the mood state vigor may be reflective of team performance. In addition, mood states appear to be influenced more by performance or experience, rather than performance being influenced by changes in mood states.

Neste artigo são examinadas algumas hipóteses que possam explicar a falta de estudos teóricos e pesquisas sobre estudantes mais velhos: (a) pouca literatura nacional disponível sobre esse tema específico; (b) falta de consenso quanto a definições do sujeito do processo educativo; (c) dificuldades em estabelecer objetivos educacionais, e (d) em avaliar a adequação desses objetivos ao atendimento de necessidades e interesses potencialmente diversos de grupos etários muito variados.
The keeping condition can be easily affect expected production and health of farm animals. Therefore, the study was aimed to determine the keeping condition of cattle in Northeastern Turkey. This ...survey-study was performed on randomly selected local farmers and villages in the region. Most of the breeders have low educational level. Most of the animal houses consist of the stone-wall, wood-soil ceiling and stone or concrete floor. Ventilations of the barns were rather insufficient, even 21.69 of breeders reported that the ventilation of the barns was completely closed during winter. Only 3.12 of the breeders in this region were reported using proper bedding. Again 57.23 of the breeders reported that they never use any disinfectant agents to clean the barns, rest of them said that they only use lime for this aim. It was found out that, generally horse, poultry and sheep were kept together with cattle in the same shed. As a conclusion, the cattle keeping conditions in the region were determined poor in quality
Angesichts hoher Belastungen und unzureichender psychosozialer Betreuung von onkologischen Patient/innen im HNO-Bereich sind Logopäd/innen und Sprechwissenschaftler/innen mit speziellen Anforderungen ...konfrontiert, die über ihr engeres Berufsfeld hinausgehen. Um ihre Problemwahrnehmungen und Fähigkeiten im Umgang damit sowie einen möglichen Weiterbildungsbedarf zu ermitteln, wurden in einem mehrperspektivischen Mixed-Methods-Zugang folgende Aspekte untersucht: 1. Erfahrungen und Problemfelder der Arbeit mit psychisch belasteten onkologischen HNO-Patient/innen aus Sicht von Logopäd/innen; 2. Selbsteinschätzung der Stärken und Schwächen der Logopäd/innen im Umgang mit Patient/innen und deren Angehörigen; 3. Erfahrungen von Supervisor/innen von onkologisch tätigen Logopäd/innen und 4. Kommunikationskompetenz von Logopäd/innen in emotionalen Gesprächssituationen. Es zeigte sich ein hohes Bewusstsein der Therapeut/innen für die psychische Belastung der Patient/innen. Übereinstimmend wurde von einem sehr hohen psychosozialen Beratungsbedarf und großen Gesprächsanteilen in der logopädischen Therapie berichtet. Diese Sondersituation führte zu Abgrenzungsschwierigkeiten, Überforderungsgefühlen und belastenden Situationen. Das psychoonkologische Wissen und die Gesprächsführungskompetenzen waren bei vielen für diese Anforderungen nicht hinreichend; es besteht dringender Weiterbildungsbedarf.
Head-and-neck cancer patients suffer from high levels of psychological co-morbidity and often do not receive adequate psychological assistance. Therefore, speech therapists are frequently confronted with specific psycho-social challenges transgressing the borders of their standard professional education. To explore their perceptions of these challenges and their skills to deal with them, the following aspects were examined in a mixed-methods approach:
1) Experiences and problems of speech therapists in working with head-and-neck cancer patients
2) Self-assessment of speech therapists' competence in cancer patient care
3) Experiences and observations of psychologists who supervised case discussions with speech therapists in oncology
4) Communication skills of speech therapists in oncology with emotionally distressed patients
Results show that among therapists there is a high level of awareness of patient distress. They agree that there is a need for psychosocial counselling for patients and that an immense part of speech therapy sessions is often needed for talking about personal problems. This difficult situation leads to:
- Deficiencies in speech therapists' ability to address patients' demands and, consequently distancing themselves from their patients.
- Speech therapists feeling overwhelmed with excessive demands and experiencing mental distress themselves.
The psycho-oncological knowledge and communication skills among speech therapists were often deficient in light of such high demands. There is a need for further training in psychological and social skills for speech therapists working with head-and-neck cancer patients.
Los pacientes con cáncer de cabeza y cuello sufren niveles altos de co-morbilidad psicológica y a menudo no reciben tratamiento psicológico adecuado. Por lo tanto, los terapeutas del habla frecuentemente enfrentan desafíos psicosociales que transgreden las fronteras de su educación profesional estándar. Para explorar sus percepciones de esos desafíos y sus habilidades para tratarlos, se examinaron los siguientes aspectos mediante un enfoque de métodos mixtos:
1) Experiencias y problemas de los terapeutas del habla al trabajar con pacientes con cáncer de cabeza y cuello
2) Auto evaluación de las competencias de los terapeutas del habla en la atención a pacientes con cáncer
3) Experiencias y observaciones de psicólogos que supervisan discusiones de caso con terapeutas del habla en oncología
4) Habilidades de comunicación de los terapeutas del habla en oncología con pacientes emocionalmente angustiados
Los resultados muestran que existe un nivel alto de conciencia entre los terapeutas acerca de la angustia del paciente. Hay una necesidad de consejo psicológico para los pacientes y los terapeutas del habla están de acuerdo en que gran parte de las sesiones de terapia son indispensables para hablar acerca de los problemas personales. Esta difícil situación conduce a:
- Deficiencias en las habilidades de los terapeutas del habla para tratar con las demandas de los pacientes y, en consecuencia, ellos se apartan de sus pacientes.
- Los terapeutas del habla se sienten abrumados con demandas excesivas y sufren angustia mental.
A la luz de tales demandas, muy a menudo, el conocimiento psico-oncológico y habilidades de comunicación entre los terapeutas del habla fueron deficientes. Existe una necesidad de entrenamiento ulterior en habilidades psicológicas y sociales para los terapeutas del habla que atienden pacientes con cáncer de cabeza y cuello.
コミュニケーション能力が発達途上にある小児の歯科診療において、歯科医は患児の心理状態を的確に把握する必要がある。これまでに、診療室レベルで鼻部皮膚表面温度と心理状態との関連性に関する研究が行われてきたが、複数のストレッサーが関係するため結果の解釈が困難であった。そこで本研究では、鼻部皮膚温度と心理状態との関連性を明確にするために、実験室条件においてストレッサーとして単一の氷刺激(手掌部)を用いて、痛みおよび不安の消長モデルの構築を試みた。実験期間中の知覚レベルおよび不安レベルをTime series Visual Analog Scale(T-VAS)および日本語版状態・特性不安検査(STAI)を使って調べた。また、鼻部皮膚温度は、サーモグラフィーを使って10秒毎に測定された。その結果、氷刺激による痛み等の知覚レベルおよび不安感が増大する時は、鼻部皮膚温度は低下した。また、氷刺激停止後に痛みや不安感が時間の経過とともに減少する時、鼻部皮膚温度は上昇し、刺激前の温度にまで回復した。また、実用性を考慮して、測定タイムポイントを数点に絞った場合も、温度変化の特徴をとらえることは可能であった。よって、これらの関係性を利用することで、サーモグラフィーによる鼻部皮膚温度の測定から痛みや不安のような心理状態の評価を行える可能性が強く示唆された。
ES La enfermedad del cáncer de mama es un hecho impactante en la dimensión psicológica de las mujeres que la padecen. A pesar de que ya no está asociada con una «sentencia de muerte», y que su ...curación tampoco implica ya obligatoriamente la extirpación de la mama, en la conciencia colectiva de las pacientes sigue asociándose a una experiencia de adversidad frente a los tratamientos agresivos, más o menos prolongados, y a las correspondientes transformaciones, cambios y pérdidas que de ellos se derivan. La presente investigación tuvo como principal objetivo estudiar la experiencia subjetiva de sufrimiento en la enfermedad y la sintomatología psicopatológica derivados del proceso de enfermedad en una muestra de mujeres con cáncer de mama. Asimismo, como objetivos específicos, observar cuáles son las dimensiones del sufrimiento más afetadas, y en qué medida contribuyen las variables sociodemográficas y clínicas a la variabilidad de la experiencia de sufrimiento. También identificar la sintomatología psicopatológica con mayor prevalencia en la muestra estudiada, así como su variabilidad en función de las variables clínicas y sociodemográficas. Indagar si las variables de sufrimiento y sintomatología psicológica están relacionadas. Investigar si el sufrimiento en la enfermedad conlleva el agravamiento de la severidad de la sintomatología psicopatológica. Y, por último, trazar un perfil psicológico de las pacientes con cáncer de mama estudiadas, teniendo en cuenta las variables empíricas evaluadas. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la experiencia subjetiva de sufrimiento en la enfermedad de las pacientes evaluadas es caracterizada por un mayor sufrimiento sociorrelacional y psicológico. Los síntomas psicopatológicos derivados de la situación de enfermedad con mayor prevalencia son la ansiedad y el Obsesión-compulsión. La escolaridad tiene efectos significativos quiere en la experiencia de sufrimiento en la enfermedad, quiere en la sintomatología psicopatológica. Pero, no fueron encontrados efectos significativos de las variables clínicas en la experiencia subjetiva de sufrimiento en la enfermedad y en la sintomatología psicopatológica. Se comprobó que la experiencia de sufrimiento en la enfermedad y la sintomatología psicopatológica están relacionadas significativamente en todas las dimensiones. No obstante, no quedó demostrada la hipótesis de que el sufrimiento influye en el agravamiento de la sintomatología psicopatológica. El perfil de morbilidad psicológica de las pacientes observadas se caracteriza por un mayor sufrimiento sociorrelacional y psicológico, y una sintomatología obsesiva-compulsiva y depresiva. Se concluye con el presente trabajo que el estudio conjunto de la experiencia subjetiva de sufrimiento en la enfermedad y sintomatología psicopatológica permite conocer mejor la salud mental derivada de la experiencia de enfermedad de las mujeres con cáncer de mama, y que los resultados obtenidos suponen importantes contribuciones a los ámbitos científico y clínico.
EN Becoming ill with breast cancer has a significant psychological impact in the lives of women that unfortunately are affected by it. Although currently breast cancer is no longer a “death sentence”, nor the treatment has necessarily to go by the experience of the breast ablation, in the patients’ collective mind breast cancer is still associated with an adverse experience when facing the aggressive treatments, more or less extend. The comprehension of women’s fears implies also the transformations, alterations and losses that the treatment involves. This investigation had as main goals to study the subjective suffering experience in women with breast cancer. In addition, to investigate the psychopathological symptomatology that steams from the process of falling ill in a sample of women with breast cancer. To understand, specifically, which are the most affected suffering dimensions, and also trying to find which is the contribution of several sociodemographic and clinical variables to the variation of the suffering experience. It was also intended to identify in the sample the most prevalent psychopathological simptomatology and its variability taking into account clinical and sociodemographic variables. Moreover, to investigate if the suffering and the psychological variables are associated, and also to explore if the breast cancer illness’ suffering contributes to worsening the severity of the psychopathological symptoms. Finally, it was intended to draw a psychological profile of the breast cancer patients included in the sample, taking into account the assessed empirical variables. 6 The results indicate that in this sample the most severe suffering experience is characterized by great psychological and sociorelacional suffering. The most prevalent psychopathological symptoms that stem from the disease are anxiety and obsession-compulsion. The educational level has a significant effect either in the suffering experience within the illness course, but also in the psychopathological symptoms. On the other hand, no significant effects were found concerning the impact of the clinical variables either in subjective suffering experience, either in the psychopathological simptomatology. There were found significant associations between all the studied suffering dimensions and the psychological simptomathology. Nonetheless, it has not been proved the hypothesis that the suffering experience has an impact in the psychopathological symptoms worsening. The morbid psychological profile of the studied patients’ is characterized by a sociorelational, psychological, and obsessive-compulsive simptomathology. The present investigation results’ point out the relevance of a combined study that includes the subjective suffering experience during breast cancer and the psychopathological symptoms variables’. This approach allows researchers to better understand the mental health state of women with breast cancer. In addition, the present study results bring important contributions to the scientific as well as to the clinical domains.
Industrial Teamwork Dynamics (ITD) has been researching from positivism point of view through Social Survey in Industries. On the secondary research, this paper applies and verifies ITD as new ...paradigm using Group Dynamics of Social Psychology for group behavior at bottom line workers into the Japanese ladies innerwear sewing maker. The work types as work team were divided into three categories, group type as flow-line (sewing by machine), individual and crew type (checking textile and cutting), individual only type (inspection). The teamwork level was defined and extracted by PCA. The team productivity was confirmed as work efficiency, achieved ratio of actual work time to standard work time in each work team. ITD certifies group type refined better teamwork level than others according to G-P analysis (best ratio groups : 151 persons, bottom ratio groups : 173 persons including three work types) by ordered work efficiency ratio on every work type.
