Gymnastics represents an important historical chapter of corporal practices in Juiz de Fora. ...this study aimed to discuss the gymnastics process development in Juiz de Fora, identifying trends and ...meanings. Places such as Clube Ginástico, Clube Noronha and Ítalo Paschoal Luiz gym played an important role in the dissemination of gymnastics in Juiz de Fora. Keywords: gymnastics; Juiz de Fora; corporal practices.
The Holocene has always been considered a crucial epoch where the major cultural steps of humankind took place. Understanding past Holocene climatic variability, shifts in vegetation, and faunal ...communities are among crucial challenges in predicting the upcoming changes of the natural environment.
In Central Europe, the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland is one of the best study areas for detecting faunal, environmental, and climate shifts. For that reason, we choose to study the small vertebrate and mollusc communities of three archaeological sites with Holocene horizons: Sąspowska Zachodnia Cave, Ciasna Cave, and Małe Rockshelter.
We analysed the faunal community shifts, and we compared our results with the major Holocene sites in the area with the correspondence and cluster analyses. The environment and climate were reconstructed through Habitat Weighting, Quantified Ecology, malacological spectra and Bioclimatic methods.
Environment and climate values showed a temporary replacement of the Late Glacial tundra and grasslands with boreal forest mixed with open wetlands during the Preboreal and then stable landscapes dominated by temperate forests. Models based on rodent data show that temperature and precipitation generally increased, starting from the Boreal, to reach values near, or sometimes overwhelm, the current climate values of the area during the Atlantic and Subboreal. The climate values obtained from herpetofaunal analyses show very slight changes between the Preboreal and the Atlantic (Ciasna Cave layers 3 and 4), except for the winter temperatures, whereas results obtained for Sąspowska Zachodnia Cave are probably biased by a very low number of recovered remains. Among rodents, a major negative oscillation detected in layers related to the edge of Early Holocene was related to the Preboreal Oscillation or long-lasting effect of the Younger Dryas.
Small mammal species are declining across northern Australia. Predation by feral cats Felis sylvestris catus is one hypothesised cause. Most evidence of cat impacts on native prey comes from islands, ...where cat densities are often high, but cats typically occur at low densities on mainland Australia. We conducted a field experiment to measure the effect of predation by low‐density cat populations on the demography of a native small mammal. We established two 12·5‐ha enclosures in tropical savanna in the Northern Territory. Each enclosure was divided in half, with cats allowed access to one half but not the other. We introduced about 20 individuals of a native rodent, Rattus villosissimus, into each of the four compartments (two enclosures × two predator‐access treatments). We monitored rat demography by mark‐recapture analysis and radiotracking, and predator incursions by camera surveillance and track and scat searches. Rat populations persisted over the duration of the study (18 months) in the predator‐proof treatment, where we detected no predator incursions, but declined to extinction in both predator‐accessible compartments. In one case, cat incursions were frequently detected and the rat population was rapidly extirpated (<3 months); in the other, cat incursions were infrequent, and the population declined more gradually (c. 16 months) due to low recruitment. We detected no incursions by dingoes Canis dingo, the other mammalian predator in the area. Synthesis and applications. This is the first study to provide direct evidence that cats are capable of extirpating small mammals in a continental setting, in spite of their low population densities. This finding supports the hypothesis that predation by feral cats is contributing to declines of small mammals in northern Australia. The conservation management of native small mammals in northern Australia may require intensive control of cat populations, including large cat‐free enclosures.
A 3-year-old, 420 g, intact male African pygmy hedgehog (
) was presented with a sudden appearance of a mass protruding from its preputium. A detailed physical examination revealed the presence ...of a polyp-like mass, connected to the mucous membrane of the penis and a second, multilobular mass with a larger base. Both masses were surgically removed. While the histopathological examination of the polyp-like mass revealed only a chronic active inflammatory reaction, the histopathological examination of the multilobular mass revealed a tumorous tissue composed of spindle-shaped cells, irregularly oval or polygonal in some places. Focal tumour cells with a myxoid differentiation were observed in the greater part of this tumour. The stroma was made up of sparse fibrous tissue. The surface epithelium was hyperplastic with ulcerations and necrosis. The tumour was classified as a myxofibrosarcoma. Two weeks post-surgery, the patient did not show any clinical signs of the presented disease. According to our knowledge, this is the first published case of the surgical treatment of penile myxofibrosarcoma in an African pygmy hedgehog.
There are still many problems in the conductive adhesive, such as particle size and particle dispersion in the matrix, which can affect the stability of the electrical conductivity. In order to ...resolve the particle dispersion issue in the anisotropic conductive films (ACFs) during the bonding process, we need to increase capture rate of conductive balls between the top and the bottom metal electrodes. In this paper, the methods of increasing capture rates were studied. The capture rates of the conventional 20- and 10-Formula Omitted polymer ball ACFs were compared. In addition, the capture rates of the conventional polymer ball ACF and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) nanofiber incorporated a polymer ball ACF were compared. As a result, the capture rates of 20-Formula Omitted polymer ball ACFs were Formula Omitted% higher than 10-Formula Omitted polymer ball ACFs. And the capture rate of PVDF nanofiber incorporated polymer ball ACF was 21% higher than the conventional polymer ball ACF. By using nanofiber and larger size of conductive balls, the capture rates can be increased.
