Social media have been extensively praised for increasing democratic discussion on social issues related to policy and politics. However, what happens when this powerful communication tools are ...exploited to manipulate online discussion, to change the public perception of political entities, or even to try affecting the outcome of political elections? In this study we investigated how the presence of social media bots, algorithmically driven entities that on the surface appear as legitimate users, affect political discussion around the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. By leveraging state-of-the-art social bot detection algorithms, we uncovered a large fraction of user population that may not be human, accounting for a significant portion of generated content (about one-fifth of the entire conversation). We inferred political partisanships from hashtag adoption, for both humans and bots, and studied spatio-temporal communication, political support dynamics, and influence mechanisms by discovering the level of network embeddedness of the bots. Our findings suggest that the presence of social media bots can indeed negatively affect democratic political discussion rather than improving it, which in turn can potentially alter public opinion and endanger the integrity of the Presidential election.

Si bien Arica y sus valles cercanos son un reflejo de la metrópolis administrativa, los registros parroquiales y notariales evidencian ciertos márgenes de acercamiento, predilección o reticencia entre las diversas castas que conforman la zona de estudio en relación con la realidad observada en el sistema de haciendas y sociedad urbana limeña; debido principalmente a la reducida población local, lo que motivó la necesidad de estrechar relaciones entre las variadas categorías étnicas existentes.
A D-decomposition of a graph (or digraph) G is a partition of the edge set (or arc set) of G into subsets, where each subset induces a copy of the fixed graph D. Graph decomposition finds motivation ...in numerous practical applications, particularly in the realm of symmetric graphs, where these decompositions illuminate intricate symmetrical patterns within the graph, aiding in various fields such as network design, and combinatorial mathematics, among various others. Of particular interest is the case where G is K*sup.λKsub.v sup.*, the λ-fold complete symmetric digraph on v vertices, that is, the digraph with λ directed edges in each direction between each pair of vertices. For a given digraph D, the set of all values v for which K*sup.λKsub.v sup.* has a D-decomposition is called the λ-fold spectrum of D. An eight-cycle has 22 non-isomorphic orientations. The λ-fold spectrum problem has been solved for one of these oriented cycles. In this paper, we provide a complete solution to the λ-fold spectrum problem for each of the remaining 21 orientations.
