The mechanical reliability uses many statistical models to fit experimental data. Weibull distribution offer a flexible and practical instrument in this domain, but implies extended use of ...specialized applications, from simple freeware to complex, expensive software; the paper proposes an investigation of the capabilities of some useful software, applying the regression analysis of experimental data.
Research infrastructures play a key role in technological development supporting science, technology and innovation. For the scientific community, but also for the creation of state science policy, ...it is necessary to have an overview of the research infrastructures that are available. Information is required on what infrastructures are available, who manages them and what services they provide. The evidence of research infrastructures is an integral part of the R&D information system. Its development at national level follows from EU activities in this area.
The software module for research infrastructure should meet the requirements of CRIS system. It should contain well-defined workflow and user interface. The second requirement for created data model has been to achieve the maximal level of CERIF compatibility, including linking with main CRIS entities. The article presents brief situation overview in Slovakia and the experience with the implementation of the Map of research infrastructure, and with its integration to the information system SK CRIS.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and photoacoustic tomography (PAT) offer two distinct image contrasts. To integrate these two modalities, we present a comprehensive hardware-software solution for ...the successive acquisition and co-registration of PAT and MRI images in in vivo animal studies. Based on commercial PAT and MRI scanners, our solution includes a 3D-printed dual-modality imaging bed, a 3-D spatial image co-registration algorithm with dual-modality markers, and a robust modality switching protocol for in vivo imaging studies. Using the proposed solution, we successfully demonstrated co-registered hybrid-contrast PAT-MRI imaging that simultaneously displays multi-scale anatomical, functional and molecular characteristics on healthy and cancerous living mice. Week-long longitudinal dual-modality imaging of tumor development reveals information on size, border, vascular pattern, blood oxygenation, and molecular probe metabolism of the tumor micro-environment at the same time. The proposed methodology holds promise for a wide range of pre-clinical research applications that benefit from the PAT-MRI dual-modality image contrast.

Basic numerical abilities are generally assumed to influence more complex cognitive processes involving numbers, such as mathematics. Yet measuring non-symbolic number abilities remains challenging ...due to the intrinsic correlation between numerical and non-numerical dimensions of any visual scene. Several methods have been developed to generate non-symbolic stimuli controlling for the latter aspects but they tend to be difficult to replicate or implement. In this study, we describe the NASCO method, which is an extension to the method popularized by Dehaene, Izard, and Piazza (2005). Their procedure originally controlled for two visual dimensions that are mediated by Number: Total Area and Item Size (i.e., N = TA/IS). Here, we additionally propose to control for another twofold dimension related to the array extent, which is also mediated by Number: Convex Hull Area and Mean Occupancy (i.e., N = CH/MO). We illustrate the NASCO method with a MATLAB app—NASCO app—that allows easy generation of dot arrays for a visually controlled assessment of non-symbolic numerical abilities. Results from a numerical comparison task revealed that the introduction of this twofold dimension manipulation substantially affected young adults’ performance. In particular, we did not replicate the relation between non-symbolic number abilities and arithmetic skills. Our findings open the debate about the reliability of previous results that did not take into account visual features related to the array extent. We then discuss the strengths of NASCO method to assess numerical ability, as well as the benefits of its straightforward implementation in NASCO app for researchers.
Owing to its cost-efficiency, 24-hour home care is increasing and represents a cornerstone in the care of elder people in Austria. A software solution to support 24-hour caregivers in their daily ...routine was developed facilitating a user-centered design process. It includes electronic documentation, an e-learning platform, emergency management, and a communication tool. To evaluate the usability and acceptance of the developed software solution, a qualitative survey including focus groups (FG), a group interview (GI), and a usability walkthrough (UW) were conducted. This paper describes the findings of the qualitative survey which indicate that the e-learning platform as well as the e-documentation support 24-hour caregivers in their daily work with their clients. Participants with less technical affinity needed support to use the tool proficiently. 24-hour caregivers appreciate the fact that the solution unites all the needed information in one place.
COMPAS: software solution for complex construction projects
In a construction project, different disciplines such as architecture, engineering, specialist planning and executing construction companies work together. Different software solutions are used for the design, the static analysis of the structure and for production planning. Adjustments in the design and planning have to be incorporated manually into each individual software solution, which is time‐consuming. For complex geometries and innovative construction methods, additional analyses and adjustments are required, which is hardly feasible with today's software solutions. COMPAS was developed for efficient data transfer between different software environments and thus promotes innovation in the construction industry. COMPAS is an open source computational framework that can be used independently of commercial software solutions. It has a geometry database, flexible data structures for different disciplines and algorithms for calculations such as structural analysis. There are numerous COMPAS extensions for specific applications such as assembly planning, timber construction, robotic fabrication and additive manufacturing. In early 2023, the COMPAS association was founded to promote further development and education.
The analysis of substrates of polymorphic cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes is important information to enable drug-drug interactions (DDIs) analysis and the relevance of pharmacogenetics in this context ...in large datasets. Our aim was to compare different approaches to assess the substrate properties of drugs for certain polymorphic CYP2 enzymes.
A standardized manual method and an automatic method were developed and compared to assess the substrate properties for the metabolism of drugs by CYP2D6, 2C9, and 2C19. The automatic method used a matching approach to three freely available resources. We applied the manual and automatic methods to a large real-world dataset deriving from a prospective multicenter study collecting adverse drug reactions in emergency departments in Germany (ADRED).
In total, 23,878 medication entries relating to 895 different drugs were analyzed in the real-world dataset. The manual method was able to assess 12.2% (
= 109) of drugs, and the automatic method between 12.1% (
= 109) and 88.9% (
= 796), depending on the resource used. The CYP substrate classifications demonstrated moderate to almost perfect agreements for CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 (Cohen's Kappa (κ) 0.48-0.90) and fair to moderate agreements for CYP2C9 (κ 0.20-0.48).
A closer look at different classifications between methods revealed that both methods are prone to error in different ways. While the automated method excels in time efficiency, completeness, and actuality, the manual method might be better able to identify CYP2 substrates with clinical relevance.
