The objective of this paper was to discover opportunities in the case-studied sugar plant for adapting to new market conditions, through the optimization ofcombined sugar-ethanol production. One of ...the main aspects of this study wasto simultaneously improve the economic and environmental performances of the sugar and ethanol plant. The two proposed options have been economically and environmentally evaluated and compared.
