  • Social entrepreneurship as remedy for growing uncertainty
Rebernik, Miroslav ; Tominc, Polona ; Pušnik, Ksenja
The main purpose of our paper is to investigate whether social entrepreneurship is one of the possible responses to growing uncertainty in the global economy and sustainable society. On the data ... basis from 49 countries that participated in 2009 in Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research we explored the prevalence and characteristics of social entrepreneurs. We found that the prevalence of social entrepreneurship increases with economic development as well as some evidence that social, environmental and community problems are generally solved more effectively by entrepreneurs than by civil social organizations. The overall results of our analysis do not yet allow us to conclude that social entrepreneurship is sufficient responce to the growing uncertainty in the global economy. Nevertheless, we are able to conclude that social entrepreneurship has a certain potential to become an important factor in achieving goals of sustainable development.
