  • Design of multiple reactor system for bioremoval of sweet chestnut tannins in wood processing effluents

    The aim of the present study is design of multiple reactor system for the bioremoval of sweet chestnut tannins contained in wood processing effluents (liquid waste streams after the extraction of ... tannins from chestnut chips). In the first part of the study some experiments were performed in the laboratory bioreactor provided experimental data which were used for determination of parameters of the supposed inhibition kinetic model. Afterwards, we designed a multiple reactor system using the criterion of a minimal total holding time (MTHT) of a two in series connected continuously stirred tank bioreactors. Technological and economical importance and excellent performance of multiple bioreactor system design using the MTHT criterion was proven with a more than two times lower total bioreactor volume compared to one-stage system.
