  • Cognitive science and (applied) linguistics
    Jutronić, Dunja
Cognitive science is an interdisciplinary area of research which encompases areas like psychology, neuropsychology, antrhropology, linguistics, philosophy, biology and others. The author claims the ... connectionist model can equally well explain language intuitions and language behavior as the classical model given by Chomsky. Chomsky's claim that his approach is 'the only game in town' is not true any more. The stress is on the question of conscious or unconscious processes in applied linguistics, especially in learning a second language. These are tightly connected with the most recent investigations in experimental psychology. It is believed that connectionist models are relevant for understanding the processes of implicit learning
