    This paper describes an insulation breakdown simulation based on partial discharges as an origin of the process. Insulation breakdown simulation is realized for 2D and 3D numerical model. The ... comparison between two numerical models shows applicability of the 2D numerical model in realistic conditions. The calculation is based on FEM numerical analysis and probability theory. Basic probability theory is directly connected to the random number generator. Air cavities/bubbles or impurities generate randomly as they appear in real materials and eventually gain conductive properties. Direction and velocity of the insulation breakdown depends on the position of the randomly generated anomalies.
