The role of language in ethnic identification of Slovene Americans

Two different Slovene American communities in the USA: Cleveland, OH and Washington, D.C. are compared. The emphasis is on the relationship between the degree of the participants' mother tongue ...maintenance and their feeling of ethnic identity. Language attitudes with regard to the participants' perceived importance of Slovene and to their use of the preferred language in various contexts are also examined in order to determine the extent to which language plays a role in their ethnic identification.
