The influence of some optimization methods on process structure

The influence of the pinch design method, dual-temperature design and nonlinear programming (NLP) methods on process designs of a normal process and a heat pump fractionator is presented. The methods ...used can give quite different energy targets and proved structures. All of them use trade-off rules between utility and investment costs. It was confirmed that mathematical programming method does not give better results than the thermodynamic approach when the best structure is not included into the superstructure.
