  • An advanced foundry method for the light alloy metal matrix composites based on a chemically activated wetting
    Kevorkijan, Varužan
This paper deals with an attempt to rationalize the interfacial behavior between a particulate ceramic reinforcement and molten metal at different interfacial chemical compositions. The ultimate ... objective is, however, to develop a predictive model which could be used to model the interfacial behavior of different MMC's mainly from a knowledge of a few basic thermodynamic parameters, such as ▫$\Delta$▫G of formation of the compound. Using the model developed, several particularly exothermic chemical reactions localized near the ceramic/liquid metal interface were theoretically and experimentally explored as promoters for wetting and bonding in Al-SiC and Al-AlN DRMMCs.
