IPsec extensions for remote access VPNsMajstor, Franjo ; Welzer-Družovec, TatjanaIPsec protocol is a framework that provides security services for traffic at the IP layer, in both the IP4 and IPv6 environments. It is nowadays most widely used standard solution for providing, ... authentication and confidentiality on packet per packet basis on layer three of OSI model. Practical usage of it is best known through so called Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). VPNs could be used to connect local area networks as well as remote users to central site. However IPsec, as it is described in RFC 2401-2414, is still missing some functionalities to be fully scalable used for remote access VPNs. In particular, it is missing functionality of how to dynamically configure remote VPN IPsec peer and how to authenticate user behind it. This article is explaining requirements for remote access VPNs as well as some possible solutions.Source: Zbornik desete Elektrotehniške in računalniške konference ERK 2001, 24. - 26. september 2001, Portorož, Slovenija (Zv.
