  • Toplotni izračun električnega stroja z metodo končnih elementov : magistrsko delo
    Plejić, Matjaž
The design of electrical machines requires accurate thermal analysis in order to maintain design integrity, assure high performance and optimize costs. The circuit approach is still prevailing in ... thermal calculations of electrical machines. However, the finite element method (FEM) is gaining ground due to its advantages. The modeling by FEM is fast and flexible, most of the parameters are generally valid, the results cover the entire problem area and they can be clearly graphically presented. The majority of commercial CAD-FEM programs includes thermal sovers which makes possible coupled eletromagnetic-thermal analysis on the some model. The exact description of thermal process in eletrical machines involves three dimensional modeling and knowledge of fluid mechanics. The modeling is time-consuming and computer times necessary to solve such problems usually still exceed acceptable limits. There is an obvious need for simplified models that will allow predicting the thermal behavior of eletrical machines already in the design phase. The thesis includes the review of the relevant physical processes that participate in the phenomenon of heating and cooling of electrical machines. The steady-state thermal calculation is performed by means of two simplified two dimensional FEM models, representing the motor in the radial and axial cross section. Only a careful examination of the physical origins of processes enables the evaluation of the consequences. Although the models represent a considerable simplification, they proved to be good enough for practical purposes. The measured and calculated temperature fields in several motors were compared and the verification shoved that the models are sufficiently complex to provide a credible description of the processes. Nevertheless, some problems remain unsolved. Exact definition of the losses and solution of the velocity field in the cooling media are two of the topics that deserve closer attention and will have to be dealt with in the future.
