Supercritical fluids as solvents for aerosol processing

Aerogels of different metal oxides are extremely porous high-tech materials with very high specific surface areas. They possess an ultrafine pore size and due to their high porosity, aerogels show a ...few highly interesting physico/chemical properties: very high specific surface area, low bulk density and low thermal conductivity. Preparation of aerogels includes several steps: sol-gel synthesis, drying and thermal treatment. Excelent properties of aerogels obtained with sol-gel synthesis were preserved with supercritical drying with CO2 and they are a key to different very useful applications of aerogels today.
