  • Cleaner production in small companies [Elektronski vir]
    Petek, Janez
The paper discusses the specific problems when introducing cleaner production in small companies. Presented is a case study in a small food processing plant with 60 employees and the whole process ... located in one production building. CP was introduced step by step. Firstly, the vegetable canning process and the utility system were analysed in order to assess the possibilities of introducing a new process: vegetable and sauce production. Secondly, energy audit and waste minimisation were carried out to decrease enery consumption and wastewater production. Thirdly, a wastewater treatment plant was designed and implemented. The results reveal that small companies are very much aware of the importance of introducing and implementing CP measures. But they need long-term cooperation with external CP experts who also have knowledge about their production process, utility systems, designing, economics and marketing. The external expert should be an informal member of the CP team who should train the staff and gradually intoduce CP through solving environmental and production problems.
