  • Capacity and performances of unsignalized intersections and roundabouts - comparative analysis
Hristoski, Jovan T. ; Tollazzi, Tomaž
Most countries have developed their own capacity methologies for the analysis of the intersection capacity and the measures of their effectiveness. The study is investigating how large differences ... are beetween three capacity analysis methodoligies (Highway Capacity Manual 2000, SIDRA and Richtlinien fuer die Anlagen von Strassen - RAS) for two types of leveled unsignalized intersections: two-way STOP controlled and roundabouts and compare them. The research has to accomplish evaluation of the capacity and the basic leveled unsignalized intersections performances - measures of effectiveness (degree of saturation, delay) according to the three different capacity methodologies, to determine and analyze the result differences between the methodoligies for two-way STOP controlled intersections and the differences between the methodologies when, as an alternative reconstruction solutiond, roundabouts are suggested. The analysis of field research results on two selected intersections and their alternative roundabout reconstruction solutions in Slovenia are presented, using adequate software for mentioned methodologies: HiCAP 1.0.0., aaSIDRA 2.0 and our own program for RAS. The average differences between methodologies are analyzed and compared for both types of intersections.
