In the paper new aspects of the theory of the coefficient of roughness are presented. Colebrook's expression was widely accepted despite the obvious difference between laboratory water flow ...conditions and the real ones in water supply systems. Our analyses were performed by the in-situ approcah with data collected from real water supply system pipes, parallel to the analyses of water losses in the Slovenian water supply system. As a result, a new expression for the roughness coefficient was obtained.
