In this work cotton fibres were oxidized with the aim to change the total charge (content of accessible acidic groups) and surface charge (content of acidic groups of fibre surface). The use of XPS ...analysis in combination with titration methods seems to be very promising for the future observation of the influence of chemical modification, e.g. oxidation, on the fibre surfaces for textile and paper material. These methods can be used as a tool to determine the degree of degradation of cellulose material.
