This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: To evaluate the effects of chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) as: an antiviral treatment on death and time to clearance of the virus from clinical samples and recovery in people with COVID‐19; a prophylactic treatment on prevention of COVID‐19 in people at risk of SARS‐CoV‐2 exposure; a prophylactic treatment on prevention of COVID‐19 in people who have been exposed to SARS‐CoV‐2.
