    Ensuring fire preparedness is important to all perioperative practitioners. Fire is an inherent risk in the surgical setting and precautions are taken on a daily basis, yet OR fires continue to occur. Awareness of this issue dates back to an annual practice of observing Fire Prevention Week the week of October 9, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
