    The article analyzes the peculiarities of specific vocabulary and reveals their functions in various issues related to the novels by Pavel Arkhipovych Zahrebelnyi, one of the most famous writers of the 20th century. His works reflect three main spheres of human activity: military patriotic, state-historical, production and creative. Depending on the problems of the works, the author widely uses the terminology, professional and archaic vocabulary, which performs various functions in the text: a representative (nominative), communicative (informative), descriptive, emotional and expressive. Among the functional styles of modern Ukrainian language a special place belongs to art, it is the core of the stylistic system of the Ukrainian language, that actively interacts with all other styles, influencing their formation and development, because the subject of figurative image in art style are all spheres of human life. This is confirmed by the work of the outstanding novelist P. Zahrebelnyi, which occupies a special place in Ukrainian fiction, remaining extremely relevant both in ideological and thematic content, and in artistic qualities, including the richness of language and linguistic means. A person with analytical thinking, having encyclopedic knowledge from various spheres of socio-political life, science, culture; thoughtful, often ironic or sarcastic, he was able to philosophically, scientifically evaluate both the events of the past and the present. In the modern world, special vocabulary, in particular terminological and professional, is actively developing, interacting with other tokens, in particular common words, widely functioning mainly in professional texts of scientific style. According to the dictionary of linguistic terms, special vocabulary is words or phrases that name objects and concepts that belong to different areas of human activity and are not commonly used. The terminology in the historical novel fulfills its main function – carries out the nomination of various concepts, and also it is a stylistic means of creating a peculiar coloring of the corresponding epoch. In the novel on industrial topics the terms are used both in direct and figurative sense, enhancing artistic expression, emotionality, and poetry. Being original in form, diverse in problematics, the novel “ThousandYear-Old Nikolai” is full of various expressive tropes with specific vocabulary. Based on terms and professionalisms, the author creates metaphorical figures, comparisons, antitheses, enlarges synonymic rows with author’s neologisms, combining a bitter irony with sarcasm and grotesque, creates cartoon-comic descriptions, uses both modern and archaic vocabulary for speech and portrait characteristics of heroes and creating professional space.
