    The author studied the quality of the Reka stream, located in the municipalityof Cerklje na Gorenjskem. Sampli ngs of organisms, which took place from December 2000 to August 2001, were carried out ... with a hand net in two different ways: by a three minute technique and by a transect technique. Some differences in results were determined on the basis of the different methods used. The data was evaluated with Shannon - Wiener diversity index (SW) and two biotic indices (Extended biotic index (EBI) and Chandler biotic score (CBS)). 79 different taxons were found by the three minute sampling and 83 different taxons by th e transect sampling. Regardless of the technique used, the taxons Gammarus fossarum dominated and many Oligochaeta from the Lumbriculidae family and also many Mayflies from the Baetis genus were found. The transect technique generated more specimens, but that did not affect much the result in evaluating the quality of the stream. Since a greater variety oftaxons were caught using the transect technique, this technique appears to be more appropriate when working on urban segments of the stream. The results obtained by the transect technique based on CBS index helped to determine the stream as a higher quality stream. Evaluations made on the basis of EBI valuesshowed few differences with the exception of one sampling place. The SW index made on the family 1 evel also showed very little difference between thetwo techniques. A similar trend of changes in species diversity along the stream were determined.
