Orel, Rok, 1963- ; Sedmak, Marjeta
Childhood functional gastrointestinal disorders are the group of chronic or recurrent disorders characterized by typical groups of symptoms without recognizable structural or biochemical causes and ... are usually related to the specific age of a child. In contrast to functional gastrointestinal disorders in adults that are classified according to a target organ, childhood gastrointestinal disorders are classified according to main complaints reported by children or their parents. Vomiting is the main symptom of infant regurgitation, infant rumination syndrome, and cyclic vomiting syndrome. Abdominal pain characterizes functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional abdominal pain, abdominal migraine, and aerophagia. Functional diarrhea represents separate entity. Disorders of defecation are classified asinfant dyschesia, functional constipation, functional fecal retention, and functional nonretentive fecal soiling. This paper is intended to present definitions, differential diagnostics and treatments of defined functional gastrointestinal disorders of childhood.
