  • Beat v ameriški književnost : magistrska naloga
    Hrovat, Katja, 1976-
Beat generation had a huge impact on the American literary and political scene in the 50's and 60's. They were the alternative and thus welcomed by the younger eager, for changes and feared by the ... old, especially the politicians who saw them as threat to the American dream and overall perfect American society. They were the ones who openly criticised America and the Americans not only with words but also with their lifestyles. As rebels and outcasts they managed to draw attention which made them even more powerful. Chapters from two to four of the thesis provide a general overview on American political and literary scene in the 50's and 60's. Chapters five to thirteen of the thesis provide a detailed description of the Beats and the Beat movement: their lifestyles, appearance, principles, literature. There is also a detailed description of life and work of most prominent Beat writers. The last part of the thesis includes an overview of the Slovene literary scene in the 50's and 60's. Furthermore it investigates how much the Beat movement was known in Slovenia and if there was any influence on the Slovene literary scene. I hope this work will contribute to a better understanding of the Beatsin Slovenia.
