  • Predictive modelling of woven fabric open porosity
    Dobnik-Dubrovski, Polona ; Brezočnik, Miran
The paper reports on the influence of woven fabric construction on open porosity. Various predictive models based on the constructional parameters of woven structures were developed to predict the ... open porosity of woven cotton fabric. The following constructional parameters were studied: yarn linear density, type of weave, fabric tightness and denting. Predictive models, determined by a 3-factor analysis, genetic programming and first principles, were derived and compared to experimental values based on the optical method. The analysis shows that non-deterministic modelling, e.g. genetic programming gives a very good agreement between the experimental and predictive values of open porosity. The proposed models provide guidelines for engineering woven cotton fabrics to fit the desired open porosity.
