    The paper deals with literary creativity and translation of literary texts within the scope of intercultural dialogue. After a brief discussion about the meaning of translation for small languages as ... Slovene we deal with the notion of Francophony and Francophone writers among whom Amin Maalouf is usually classified. Amin Maalouf, originary of Lebanon but living in France since 1976, member of French Academy, is given as an example of an intercultural author. Three of his novels, Léon l'Africain (Leon the African), Le Rocher de Tanios (The Rock of Tanios) and Samarcande, and their Slovene translation are analysed from the point of view of culturally specific terms, coming into the novels from Arabic language via French. It appears that the writer suggests the main translation strategies with his presentation of culturally specific words already in French, where the explanation of the sense of a culturally specific word, which is usually typographically marked, immediately follows the it.
