  • Dynamics of driving over vertical velocity-reducing road features [Elektronski vir]
Ambrož, Miha ; Zupan, Samo ; Prebil, Ivan
Design considerations of vertical velocity-reducing features, also known as speed humps, on public roads are discussed. A measurement vehicle with sensorics for measuring the required physical ... quantities has been set-up and used on several existing vertical velocity-reducing features on public roads. The geometry of the features has been modelled in order to produce geometrical models for simulation. A software application for interactive driving simulation, developed by the authors, has been used to simulate driving over the selected types of vertical velocity-reducing features. The design of the application is briefly described and the specific issues of simulating driving scenarios for different purposes are presented. The simulation results are compared to measured data and to the data obtained by commercial simulation tools. The results are discussed from the traffic safety and the suitability point of view for each measured vertical velocity-reducing feature. The conclusions assess the applicability of driving dynamics simulation in evaluation and design of velocity-reducing road features.
