    Virtual frontloading is required to ensure efficient and low emission combustion of sewage sludge in small scale combustion systems. Reactive 3D-CFD simulation are promising tools, however current ... approaches lack suitable combustion models to describe combustion of such a complex fuel in small, confined spaces. To fill this knowledge gap, the present study significantly increases the practical applicability of the reactive CFD, surrogate based sewage sludge combustion model. This is done by extending the previously developed methodology for definition of surrogate components to include reduced combustion kinetic mechanisms. The innovative extension is tailored to conditions and surrogate compositions specific to sewage sludge combustion and relies on Simulation Error Minimization Connectivity Method. Suitability of the proposed approach is confirmed with the model maintaining similar level of accuracy and considerable gain in computational speed. The proposed methodology extension and resulting model offers an efficient tool for accurate virtual design of complex combustion systems.
