    Shape optimization of a blank sheet that is used for deep drawing of a square cup is considered. Using mathematical programming methods the optimization is carried out based on the actual mechanical ... state that is obtained in the cup after drawing of the blank sheet of a specific given shape. The analysis of the sheet metal forming process is performed by a corresponding numerical simulation based on the Finite Element Method. Two optimization methods, the discrete dynamic programming and the quadratic programming using the constrained quasi-Newton method are considered, and their computational efficiency is compared.
