  • Synthesis and characterization of nanosized silver chalcogenides under ultrasonic irradiation

    Silver chalcogenides are promising photoelectric, thermoelectric and intrinsic semiconductor materials with a narrow band gap. A general and convenient sonochemical process was developed for the ... preparation of silver chalcogenides by using silver acetate and elemental chalcogens as precursors and ethylenediamine as solvent. The purity of the products was confirmed by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) while the morphology of the products was studied by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Monodisperse Ag2Se nanoparticles and agglomerated Ag2S and Ag i Te clusters were obtained in good yield. The role of ethylenediamine in the reaction mechanism is discussed and advantages of the presented methods are pointed out.
