Kokol, Vanja ; Teodorovič, Simona ; Golob, Vera, 1954-2005
The authors investigate today's use of enzymes in industrial textile finishing processes, their intense development and application problems. The paper describes the structural/functional activity of ... enzymes, the technological processes with which they are produced, genetic engineering and also the environmental and economic benefits of their industrial usage. The review includes the possible use of enzymes in textile finishing processes for natural and man made fibres. Included is the description of the problems arising from pretretment, bleaching, dyeing and chemical finishing processes. Special emphasis is placed on enzyme finishing and the development of new enzymes and enzyme-based processes, their adavantages and weaknessess, fibre damages as well as enzyme lifetime and their action on the fibre. The alternative procedures that yield special end effects are described in detail. The development of extremely stable enzymes and the promising use of biotechnology in textile finishing processes are pointed out at the end.
