  • Characterisation of directionally solidified microstructure of eutectic Pb-Sn alloy = Characterisierung eines gerichtet erstarrten gefüges einer eutektischen Pb-Sn-Legierung

    In this peper we present the influence of growth rate V on the microstructural changes in the directionally solidified eutectic Pb-Sn (12,9% wt Sn) alloy. The Pb-Sn eutectic alloy was solidified at ... different pulling velocities (of samples being removed from the heating zone) at a constant temperature gradient on a laboratory directional solidification device (Bridgman type furnace). The monitoring of the growth rate V and the temperature gradient G was performed with thermocouples placed inside of the samples and with electrical resistance measurements. The results of our investigation show that the lamellar spacing [lambda] decreases with the increasing growth rate V, and that the microstructure of the eutectic Pb-Sn alloy changes progressively from regular lamellar to degenerate rod-like morphology.
