  • Kako ravnamo ob domnevi alergije na beta-laktamske antibiotike = The management of patients with suspect allergy to beta-lactam antibiotics

    Different mechanisms are involved in allergic reactions to penicillins and other B-lactam antibiotics, which are expressed as skin rush, systemic reactions and also life-threatening anaphylaxis. ... Sensibilisation to penicillins is not present lifelong. In the article the incidence of allergic reactions to penicillins and other B-lactams is presented. Clinical manifestations of allergy are described and the time relationship from the application of the drug to the onset of symptoms is emphasised. The onset of the most dangerous systemic reactions is within the first hour. The differential diagnosis is also described. Suggestions for dealing with patients allergic to penicillins or cephalosporins in case of indication for antibiotic treatment are given as well.
