  • Konzervativno zdravljenje kronične venske insuficience = Nonoperative treatment of chronic venous insufficiency
    Šikovec, Andrej
The treatment of chronic venous insufficiency is a considerable problem for the health care system because of the prevalence of this condition and its relatively poor prognosis. Patients presenting ... chronic venous insufficiency can be offered conservative or surgical treatment. Conservative treatment is the only option for those patients who cannot or will not undergo surgery. For other patients, conservative treatment is useful before surgery in order to assure the success of surgery, prevent and treat relapses and relieve symptoms. Compression therapy is the basis of conservative treatment, but it must be carefully selected and performed. To obtain the desired effect, the patient must walk on a regular basis. For some cases, especially in relapses after surgery, sclerotherapy is also available and is combined with compression therapy. Certain drugs are available to relieve the symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency. They act on the venous tone and microcirculationand successfully relieve certain symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency, especially edema. Flavonoids are the representatives of this group of drugs.
