    Background. To show the cardiovascular drugs (CVD, ATC group C) utilization inSlovenia in DDDs/1000 inhabitants per day in the period 1992-98 and to make the analyses of the data according to the ... age, sex and regions. To show each subgroup and to compare the results with other countries. Methods. 90% of drugs were selected from the list of the most frequently prescribed C group drugs. All drugs with the appearance frequency lower than 0,3% were rejected. Results. The whole CVD utilization is estimated to 207.8 DDDs in 1998. It grewup for 66% in the period of 6 years. But such a quick growing is stopping now and many changes in the structure of the prescribed drugs are seen. The plain ACE-inhibitors (57.8 DDDs), calcium channel blockers (31.7 DDDs) and diuretics (17.1 DDDs) are predominating. The utilization is growing up according to the age. Women are prescribed more drugs than men. According to international comparisons, the diuretics, beta receptor blockers and statins are not prescribed enough. The consumption of peripheral vasodilators and alpha adrenergic receptor blockers is very high. Conclusions. The data of drugutilization show great changes in prescribing in the observed period if wemean the quality or quantity.
