  • Giuseppe Tartini as a (missed) opportunity for Slovenia’s cultural diplomacy

    This chapter examines the role and position of Giuseppe Tartini in the Slovenian cultural space through the lens of Slovenia’s cultural diplomacy. The results show that Tartini has not reached a ... level of acceptance in Slovenia that would allow using him as a cultural product for promoting Slovenia abroad. This lack of acceptance can be attributed to three factors. First, Tartini is seen in Slovenia primarily as a local brand linked to Piran. Second, the specific music of Giuseppe Tartini limits his greater recognition, so he is mainly known to experts and connoisseurs. Third, the low ambition of local authorities and low interest of state authorities in promoting Tartini at home and abroad does not allow a breakthrough in the use of this brand beyond the local level. All this confirms the initial assumption, that Tartini has the potential to become a product of Slovenia’s cultural diplomacy, but many steps still need to be taken before this potential can be used.
