    Meden-Vrtovec, Helena
The paper deals with outpatient treatment of women of reproductive age, the emphasis being placed on screening examinations during pregnancy and on prevention of cervical cancer. Monitoring of ... pregnancy involves 10 visits to the gynecologist and at least two ultrasound examinations (in the 8th -12th gestational week and in the 20th gestational week; additionally between the 30th and the 32th and gestational week, if required). It is imperative to havethe findings of basic laboratory tests, the important screening tests included (toxoplasmosis, hepatitis B). Screening tests for prevention of cervical cancer should be performed once every three years in case the cytological finding of cervical smear has been negative twice within a one-year interval. The prevailing causes for examinations because of pathological conditions in reproductive age are bleeding, abdominal pain and vaginal discharge, which individually or combined represent symptoms of certain pathological changes.
