  • Rehabilitacija bolnikov z amputacijo spodnjih udov in najpogostejšimi spremljajočimi obolenji = Rehabilitation of patients with lower extremity amputation and comorbidity
Erjavec, Tatjana, dr. med., 1953- ; Prešern-Štrukelj, Metka
This paper describes the rehabilitation outcome in patients with lower extremity amputation necessitated by peripheral artery disease who also have coronary and cerebrovascular comorbidity. The only ... rehabilitation goal in amputee patients is to walk with the prosthesis, which is quite a strenuous activity. This depends of the level of amputation and comorbidity. Amputee patients with coronary heart disease are those most at risk of experiencing further cardiovascular ischemic events. The rehabilitation of patients with a dual disability involving hemiplegia and lower extremity amputation is very difficult and has yielded the lowest success rates. The outcome of rehabilitation depends of the patient's cooperation, degree of neurological deficit and level of lower extremity amputation. In one-side amputee patients with insufficient arterial circulation in the other lower extremity, our effort is oriented towards a quick diagnosis and revascularization of the other leg.
